  1. Journal of Lady Shal (XX Month, XX Day) The thought of my brother fighting that ... thing .. that was once Lord Blackthorn is an unsettling thought. [Three weeks prior] Prometheus emerged from the dark cave. After the pitch black, the bright sunlight was almost unbearble. He squinted into the distance, his eyes adujusting to the sudden brightness. To the northwest, he could see the small grasslands where the ridgebacks roamed. Shal often went there to practice her animal taming skills. To the south was the swampy lands of the savages, the very same ones who had invaded Britannia and waged war against the orcs. And to the west, towering over the rest of the landscape was the stronghold of Lord Blackthorn. Even at a distance, the size of the structure was easily discerned. Promtheus pulled out a small pair of spectacles, small lenses of his own making that magnified objects much like a telescope, only smaller and not quite as powerful. But even the small power was enough to make out the roaming watch guards: golems. Deadly mechanical constructs powered by clockwork and arcane crystals. Their mighty fists were capable of punching through even the strongest platemail, and often knocked riders clean off their horses. Fortunately for Prometheus, his mission parameters stated to maintain as much stealth as possible. A full frontal assault would surly draw too much attention, and the numerous golems lumbering about would be too much for even a Grandmaster Mage to handle. Promtheus opened his pack, searching for the special tool Borg had included in the scroll. It was a vial so small it almost went unnoticed. Promtheus had carefully tucked it into the pouch along with his potions, not wanting it to shatter. As he fished it out, his hand passed over something strange. A communication crystal. Alarm shot through him. Who had put this here? Borg? Charsi? Fing? Shal? The enemy? Prometheus was tempted to speak to the crystal, if only to see if there was a response, but decided agaisnt it. Whoever had put this here obviously did not want it to be found. Taking no chances, Prometheus tossed the crystal behind a small bush near the mouth of the cave. "Blast it," he muttered once out of range of the crystal. "I've been too careless." He opened the vial and dipped his fingertips into it. The liquid was made of special berries, cultivated from this very same area. The savages used it as a crude paint, and that is exactly what Borg had given him. The savages were not known for their intelligence, and simply wearing the paint was enough for normal Britannians to walk among them undetected. Prometheus applied the paint to his body, having to shed his armor in the process. He dreaded leaving it behind, but it was essential, as most savages walked around with little more than loincloths, much less full battle armor. As a finishing touch, he pulled out a blood red mask, the same shade his his hair, to complete the look. The carefully tucked his ponytail under the mask, not wanting his unsual hair be a giveaway to the savages. Unfortunately, his large vocabulary would also be a dead giveaway as most of the savages, save for the mystical shamans, were barely able to speak. After the paint was finished drying, Prometheus tucked his armor behind a bush, took a deep breath, and began walking south. As he approached the swamp, the smell grew stronger. Decay, rot, and filth ran rampant through this area. It was surprising that the savages were able to irk out an existence in this miserable location. As he trudged through the swamp, the muck squishing between his toes, he soon made out the stout, wooden walls of the savages fort village. Spearman walked in irregular patrols around the perimter, fighting off the swamp creatures. Farther out, riders on ridgebacks speared alligators and hauled their carcasses back to the village for cooking and consumption. It was a crude culture, but a culture nonetheless. As Prometheus strode up to the village, the spear toting guards barely even acknowledged him. 'They must see alot of men and women come and go, living like this,' Prometheus thought. 'They probably think I'm a long lost cousin or something.' In his mind, he reviewed the Intelligence message Borg had given him: "Our intelligence sources tell us there is a hidden path to Blackthorns castle somewhere inside the village of the savages. We are not sure where this path is, or what form it takes, but we are certain it exists." The first part of his mission was to seek out this path. If this path could be found, if it did indeed exist, could provide the Imperial Legion an excellent way to launch a sneak attack on Blackthorns forces. Unfortunately, Prometheus wasn't even sure where to began. Logic would dictate that if this path existed, it would be heavily guarded by the savages. He slipped into the village, quickly scanning the area for any telltale signs. Several crude straw huts were scattered haphazardly around. Any one of them could house the passage. As he stood there contemplating, suddenly he noticed it had gone quiet in the village. He whirled around. All the savages who were previously inside the grass walls were suddenly gone. In the distance, he heard shrieking and whoops, and the clang of metal. Apparently, the savages were enganged in some kind of battle. "Perfect timing" he said aloud, and quickly ducked into the nearest hut to begin his search.
  2. That happened to me once, while I was still using 99b (I hated the newest version and still do). I ended up having to uninstall it and then install the newest version. That fixed the problem and it hasn't happened since.
  3. Just found this news tidbit on Stratics, a lot of new and interesting things discovered by analyzing this last patch. Last Patch, Warning, link does contain spoilers!
  4. Journal of Lady Shal (XX Month, XX Day) My brother departed quickly that day, wasting no time in donning his armor, stuffing his reagent bag, and making arrangements with his servants. He said the Emperor had instructed him to speak nothing of his mission, not even to me! But ... I have other ways of finding these things out. [Three weeks prior] Prometheus double checked all his equipment. His armor felt stiff after all this time, but he knew it was in good repair. He glanced around the upper room of the Trinsic Royal Bank. It was at one point the office of the guild treasurer, Colin Mor, a close personal friend of the Emperor's. "Thank you, Charsi," he said, fidgeting a tad. The new leather made from the dragon hides was light, flexible, and very strong, but it still didn't feel as comfortable as a nice flowing robe, the typical garb of most mages. "You are welcome, M'Lord," Charsi said. "Good luck with your travels. Be safe!" She bowed slightly, and descended the stairs to the first floor, heading back to the inn where she currently resided. Prometheus gave his surroundings one more glance, and sighed. The instructions from the Emperor were clear, this mission was of utmost secrecy. Even his sister was not to know where he was going. Prometheus reached into his pack and found the Etheral Horse statuette by touch. He concentrated, and a few seconds later, the fine, transparent steed appeared beneath him, elevating him suddenly. It was still a strange feeling to get used to, but Prometheus would manage. He opened his traveling runebook and selected the page marked "Trinsic Moongate." He visualized the area in his mind and cast the Recall spell. "Kal Ort Por" He appeared seconds later, just a few paces from the swirling blue vortex. The Emperor had given him a vague direction of where he was to go once he reached his destination ... Ilshnar. Prometheus nudged his emotionless mount towards the moongate and again visualized his destination: The Shrine of Compassion. ----- Shal sat at home, staring blankly at the crystal in front of her. Her brother had followed Borg's orders and she was not mad at her brother. But her instincts had won the best of her. Knowing that she couldn't follow her brother to wherever it was he was going, she at least wanted to know if he was safe or not. So she came up with a plan. In addition to his reagents, Prometheus carried a variety of magical potions to help augment his strength, cure poison, and heal his wounds. These potions were carried in a special padded bag, to prevent the bottles from breaking, and Prometheus had asked her to prepare these potions for him. Thinking quickly, she hid a communication crystal at the bottom of the pack, behind one of the folds of protective cloth. Her brother, trusting her to stock the correct number of potions, had not bothered to double check in his haste to leave. Now Shal listened carefully to the crystal. She had heard his conversation with Charsi, his conversations with the bankers, and had heard him cast the Recall spell. A short time later, she heard him speaking with someone else, a voice she didn't recognize. It was most definately human, however. They had spoke of many things, but one name stuck in her mind: Lord Blackthorn. Prometheus' mission had something to do with the man who was once Lord British's best friend. But now the crystal was silent. And it had been silent for nearly 3 hours now. --- Prometheus stepped out into Ilshnar, breathing deeply. The air was so much purer than that in Britannia. Perhaps it was due to the lack of human population, as the only permanant cities were occupied by monsters. Only bands of roaming gypsies dared to stake claim to a few small areas. And it was one of those areas he now approached. As he rode throught the forest he heard the squeaks and trills of ratmen, natives of this forest. He glanced around as he rode, but Prometheus was unable to see them. 'Perhaps they know better than to attack the Imperator of the PGoH Legion,' he chuckled softly. After a short ride, he was safely behind the makeshift walls of the gypsy camp. He bowed slightly to the inhabitants, as they pointed and whispered among each other. "Hail and well met," Prometheus said, approaching a man near a small makeshift forge. "Hail there, stranger," the man said. He eyed Prometheus strangly. "Most unusual hair you have, M'Lord." "Indeed," said Prometheus, smiling slightly. "I am only passing through, and I simply need directions. It is my understand that your group unearthed a cave nearby that leads to the castle of a certain Lord Blackthorn." The man winced noticably at the mention of that name, and then spat. "Aye indeed, and I wish we had never found that cursed place. We are under constant attack by the animals from the other side, and those savages who ride them!" He spat again. "If ye are going there, be prepared for a fight, lad!" "Aye indeed, I am prepared, sir. Thank you kindly for your directions." Prometheus bowed, and then tossed him a small pouch of gold. The man caught it, weighed it in his hands, and smiled. "Blessings to ye lad!" Prometheus nodded, and spurred his horse towards the cave. The entrance was well marked, but he couldn't see any deeper inside. It was almost is if the light was being devoured. Thinking quickly, he cast a Nightsight spell and then, taking a deep breath, entered the cave.

  6. I belive there is another thread asking about a PGoH bagball team down there somewhere ... didn't get too much of a response though. I would be interested.
  7. Journal of Lady Shal (XX Month, XX Day) I am still worried about my brother, it has been over 2 weeks since he departed on his mission ... I still remember that day clearly when it all started .... ------------------------------------------------------- [Three weeks prior] Shal awoke slowly from her dreams and blinked. Ever since she had established the strange telepathic bond with her pet ostard, Regis, she continued to have the strangest dreams. Her nightmare and dragon had become quite ornery as of late, to the point where they would not even obey the simplest of commands. She had been forced to place them in the Trinsic stables for the time being. She had already recieved enough complaints from the angry stablemaster about their behaviour, but she could only shrug and give the poor man a few extra gold pieces as pennance. She woke up, flushing the distant sqauks and warbles of Regis out of her mind. The ostard did NOT like being cooped up in a stall with other smelly, dirty packhorses and the other animals usually kept in the stables. As convenient as the bonding had seemed, it did have its side effects. With the bonding, she found she could hear her pet's thoughts. She knew when it was in danger, and when it was happy. But after a while, it got just plain annoying, especially when she was tryign to sleep. She quickly stepped over to the wash basin and tidied up when suddenly she heard a knock at the door of the log cabin she shared with her brother, Prometheus. "Coming!" she called, quickly changing form her nightgown to her normal everyday clothing. She climbed quickly down the rope ladder and came to the front door. Out in front of the house stood her old friend, the Praetorian Fing. "Hey there, Shal," he said, bowing slightly. "Is Prom around?" "No, I didn't hear him this morning, so he must be out," she said. "Why, what's up?" Fing glanced around, as if scanning for a hidden enemy. "Can we talk about this inside?" "Why, what's wrong? You seem upset," Shal said, noting the look in his eyes. A nervous Fing was something to be worried about. She had hunted with him against the lich lords during the occupation of Trinsic, and her brother had hunted balrons and ancient wyrms along side him as if they were mongbats. The thought that something could make this fearless mage nervous was an unsettling thought. "We really should talk about this inside," he said firmly. Shal nodded and opened the door. As Fing stepped in, he noticed the rather empty first floor of the cabin. "Yeesh, ever since he gave up being a gardener, he hasn't done much with this place." He kicked a small pile of leaves still left over from the plethora of plants that once occupied this floor, which Prometheus had dubbed the "greenhouse." "Yeah," Shal said. "He has plans for it, but I'm not sure what he has in mind yet. So what's going on?" Fing reached into his pack and produced a thick, heavy scroll, tied with a purple ribbon. It bore the seal of the Emperor Borg himself. "See that Prometheus gets this," Fing said. "It's a special message from the Emperor, topmost priority, secrecy, and all that good stuff. For his eyes only, in other words." He grinned slightly. "Why not just send him a carrier pigeon?" Shal asked. "IT'd be easier to locate him that way ... sometimes he is away for days at a time, and if this is so important ...." "Well, the emperor didn't want this message to be intercepted by ... by anyone who shouldn't see it," he said. "He felt it would be better if it was hand delivered by a Praetorian." Shal nodded in understanding, but she was still very curious. What exactly did the Emperor have to say that was so secret? "Well, I had better get going. I must report back to Ser and Borg and let them know that the letter was delivered. I'll catch you later, Shal." He bowed again, and uttered "Kal Ort Por" and was gone. Shal sighed and went back upstairs to the bedroom. "Well, this note may too important for a pigeon, but I can't exactly hand deliver it if I don't know where my brother is!" she said aloud. Almost as if on cue, she hear the distinctive sound of magical energy being displaced ... someone had just recalled outside. She waited for a few seconds, and heard the door open below. Sure enough, a bright red crop of hair appeared moments later. "Morning sis," Prometheus said, still clinging to the ladder. His hair was immacuately neat, as usual, and tied back behind his bandanna. "Sorry I'm late with breakfast, but I ran into some old friends near the bank." "Oh that's fine, I just woke up anyways. You just missed Fing," Shal said. "He had an important delivery for you." She held out the scroll. His eyes widened slightly, and he took the scroll from her. "Hmmm, from Borg himself," he said as he untied the purple ribbon and tossed it aside. He unrolled the scroll and with the veteran eyes of a scholar, he began to read. His eyes darted quickly across the paper, and within seconds, Shal knew he was done reading ... but he continued to stare at the scroll as if it had somehow enchanted him. "Is everything OK?" she asked. Prometheus hesitated, but then said "Oh yes, everything is fine. Borg just want's me to do a little investigating of ... some of the recent activities." He paused in thought for a few minutes. "Contact Charsi in town, and tell her I am going to need her to prepare my battle armor." Battle armor? This was no ordinary "investiation" if it required battle armor, thought Shal. However, it was not her place to question the Emperor's decisions. "Of course," she said. Charsi, their servant, lived in Trinsic still, even though her prefered workplace was the log cabin. It just simply wasn't large enough for the 3 of them. "Now is not the time to worry about this, Shal," said Prometheus, as if sensing her tensness. "Let's just eat our breakfast and we'll talk more on this later." He produced a small pack, filled with fresh fruit and muffins fresh from the bakery in Trinsic. "You're right," she said. "You're always right." She giggled, took the muffin he offered her, and chewed it thoughtfully. She heard Regis squawk faintly in the back of her mind, as if he could also sense her uneasiness. 'Don't worry' she said to him in her mind. 'Have faith in my brother and the emperor.'
  8. I would be willing to maintain a scroll/runebook vendor.
  9. After reading Steel's story, and after a brief discussion with him, I've decided to go ahead and began posting, in semi-daily chapters, a lil piece of character fiction I have been writing bit by bit in my mind. I always enjoy reading character fiction that others write, and I say it's about time I did some of my own. I'll probably began posting the story next week, for both my enjoyment in writing and for the enjoyment of you, my guildmates, in reading! Stay tuned...!
  10. My spellbook and reagents are yours! Unfortunately, the lockpicker who used to be in my family has long since departed this realm (read that as deleted due to lack of use :shakehead:).
  11. Very interesting. I enjoy reading fiction such as this and am also in the process of brainstorming some story ideas of my own to post here for the enjoyment of my guildmates. Good work Steel, I am looking forward to part 2 to find out who "HE" is
  12. I agree wholeheartedly that the sea is a greatly overlooked part of the UO experience. Like Borg said, it bascially serves as a buffer between land, and a training ground for certain skills. I personally pushed for a guild Navy and admire groups like the United Pirates (are they still around?) and others who make good use of the sea. How many have tried exploring the seas of the Lost Lands? Theres a LOT of places there that most people have never even seen that I have. I hope that sometime in the near future, the sea gets a makeover
  13. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the GURPS system ... I remember the Palladium system was level based like D&D and your skills were percentiles (similar to UO) ... I am glad to see there will be cybernetics/bionics and such, that was one of the more interesting things to Rifts/Heros Unlimited was being able to augment your character, ala 6 million dollar man hehehehe ....
  14. Sounds quite a bit like "Heros Unlimitied," an old pen and paper RPG put out by the same company that put out "Rifts" (Palladium?). Would be interesting to see how successfully this could be translated.
  15. I first read about this idea on the Catskills forum on Stratics, and have taken a liking to it. When (if?) the carpentry BOD system goes in, a possible high end reward could be a BOD filing cabinet! Have it count as a normal secure in your house, same item limit (125 BODs), but have compartments, drawers, or whatever, sorted by color (for smithing ore types, indicated by a colored gem) or material type (indicated by gumps of the appropriate leather/cloth type) At the moment, I have my personal BODs sorted this way, by using pouches inside backpacks, organized by color and material type ... while this makes for an easy to understand system that quickly helps me locate BODs of the proper color and material, I do have to waste space inside the backpack with the individual pouches, which unfortunately, count as 1 item each. The BOD cabinent would have those same compartments, only having them not count as items inside the overall cabinent, saving space and allowing you to store more BODs in an organized fashion. These would be a high end reward, and there would be a different cabinet for each BOD type, i.e. smithing, tailoring, carpentry, and who knows what else (tinkering, inscription, fletching?) What does everyone think?
  16. What Type of Villain are You? mutedfaith.com / <º>
  17. The thing is, it originally belonged to my friend, who left UO and passed it on to me. So the "send password via email" isn't gonna work because it gets sent to his email, and unfortunately I don't get a chance to speak with him very often as he is a busy guy. I'm worried that might present a problem.
  18. Very cool ... too bad I still haven't been able to remember the password for my other account.
  19. An interesting idea and pretty good, but I have to disagree with disalowing trades inside city limits, many players use the trade window to simply pass goods to friends (myself included). Also, perhaps extend the time that the item is up for auction past 1 day by perhaps paying a small fee to keep it up for an extra day, much like current player vendors charge for their upkeep based on the total amount of the items they have for sale.
