  1. Our last romp was a "tad" disoganized. Here's some more tips for group combat and strengthening the Honor Line. 1. Follow the chain of command, ie the TC for the romp, which in this case is Brightblade/Lora. Listen to their orders, they are veterans of fighting champions spawns, especially Lora. 2. Don't run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Maintain the line of melee fighters so that the mages aren't put into danger. We don't use shields or have Parry, and only wear leather armor (if that). 3. A technique which hasn't seen use for ages and I just remembered! Before the romp, make a macro on one of your F# keys that goes: Say: HONOR Say: HONOR Say: HONOR Use this macro if you need a heal. Not only does it get our attention, but also provides mages with a target (your text) in case you are covered by monsters. And don't forget to review Wolf's guide on group tactics.
  2. Cool cool! People suggested reagent farms for a long time, and this is probably as close as we are going to get.
  3. I hear rumors that taking the beetles to dungeons in Felucca was causing some problems. I think what it was was trying to put cursed items like power scrolls onto them and then ride them out of the dungeon (this is just a rumor though, have not confirmed it)
  4. Charsi had similar results on a frost troll while mining. Very useful for miners!!
  5. Week 2 brings us the much awaited 4th and 5th year vet rewards, and best of all, the ridable beetles! These are very very very useful creatures, they double as a pack animal too! And they are very easily able to defend themselves, unlike a packhorse. They seem to take between 60-70 taming, and like swampies or ridgebacks, can be transfered and controlled by anyone. The tameable ones are part of the spawn that appears when you walk near one of the holes the Solen come from. Usually it's just workers and warriors, but every now and then, you find a beetle! Next, you need to bring it to near death. You'll get a message that says the creature has been beaten into subjugation, and you know it's ready to tame! They have 300 str, and 500 intelligence(!) but no magery. Steel and I tested them, they seem to dish out more damage than a frenzied ostard, but lack the pack instincts. They take up 3 control slots, and eat meat. That's all the info I have on them at the moment
  6. I just found a good quote on Stratics from another player which pretty much sums up my feelings on Ebay, UO, and this whole "Advanced Character" business ... ------ Theres a powerscroll, a castle and a runic hammer in the poker pot, the hand has been dealt and cards have been played, just before the call two things happen: 1. One of the players, hands his cards to someone else and says play out my hand I am giving up gambling. 2. A new player shows up and buys a preset good, not great but darn good, hand from the dealer. 1 = eBay 2 = OSI ------ Me personally, I have 0 problems with Ebay or anyone buying things in UO for real cash. It's not being created by OSI or anyone ... it's simply changing hands ... it is no different than trading for UO gold or trading for cash, the end result is the same. I think that people are having trouble distinguishing between Ebay and what Origin is doing. Another common arguement people are saying is ... just cause Ebay is doing it, doesn't mean that it is "OK" for Origin to do it also. The ol "would you jump off a bridge if this person did?" scenario .... While I am still riled up about this whole business, I am going to put it behind me ... the only thing keeping the marjoity of UO players with this game is the friendships forged during our several years in this virtual world, and I am no exception. And until all my friends are gone, I am here ....
  7. The new players who use this service are really missing out ... they just don't realize it like we do .... *sighs*
  8. Many predicted this would happen, and sure enough, it did. http://support.uo.com/advancedcharacter.html
  9. This is short notice, but I would like the guild to get together this Saturday night (9-21) at Safe Haven for some fun and relaxation, prior to your offical hunt on Sunday. I already noted this in a thread in the General board, but I thought I'd make another reminder here. This is of course, very informal, and just meant mainly to give the guild a chance to associate outside of a hunt/combat setting! I'm not setting any time other than "night-time" as many of us are in different time zones, and I personally have to work that night but I will be there when I get home. Nobody is required to come but it'd be nice if we had as many show up as possible.
  10. Ok, here's an idea. What we need to do is have a lil get together this coming week ... not a hunt, not a meeting ... just a get together at Safe Haven for socializing. Let new recruits meet the old. Have a drink, play some chess, just have fun and socialize! Many of you have probably never been to Kinship, the tavern near Skara Brae in Felucca. It used to be the center for much of the roleplaying on Catskills. You could go there any time of day and there'd always be SOMEONE there to chat with. That's what Safe Haven should be. Just as its name implies, a safe place for not just PGoH to gather, but for anyone! And lets not make it a designated event. We should be able to do this at any time. But, as a jumping point, lets say this Saturday night, anyone who is around and can make it, just stop by Safe Haven and chat a while ... have a drink or two. And I haven't played chess in so long, I'd be looking for any worthy opponents *note* I do have to close at work that night, so I wouldn't be around till after 9 ... but I WILL be there!
  11. Welcome aboard! We met briefly at the Savage mission
  12. I agree, Safe Haven is much underused. Location wise, it's actually better than Olympus (its a high vendor traffic area) and there are a few guild houses in the area (including Fing's place)
  13. Personally, when I first joined the guild, I was still pretty much a newbie, with only one real usable character (my very first one, as a matter of fact). I joined up with PGoH under Shal after a bad night. Here's my story. I had been playing as Shal, working on her wrestling at the bone knights wall (this was way back in the day, before the days of the meanie-greenie, powerhour, Trammel, etc.) And of course, I died. At that point, I was ready to give up UO. I had lost a ton of valuable items on my body due to people at the wall refusing to resurrect me. So I ran out of deceit as a ghost, and ressurected at the shrine. I was stuck on Ice Isle (this was before runebooks) and I was so frustrated, I actually attempted to delete Shal right then. This would be the one time I was glad of the 7 minute logout timer. So after that failed attempt, I calmed down, and gathered my thoughts. I found a vendor selling "recovery packs" (recall scroll, bandages, and a rune to Britain) and made it off. I worked my way back to Trinsic, and was standing by the West bank of Trinsic (yeah Trinsic has two banks!) and observed an arguement between a group of people. Evangelion of PGoH and 2 others I can't remember. Now I had seen lots of PGoH around Trinsic, including Arthil and Eol the Dark, and thought "wow big guild" *grin* So needless to say, I listened to their debate (don't even remember what it was about) and gave a few of my own opinions. After the 2 others had went their seperate ways, Evanelion asked me if I was looking for a guild. I was rather surprised at that, as me being a basic newbie, and flat out asked if she was joking. But she was serious. She helped me find a sponser, Argos, and told me about the Trinsic Royal Bank as being the primary hangout. So after doing the application and such, I started hanging out at the bank, meeting people such as Fing, Garbahd, and Ariakus (my 3 main friends at first ... sadly the later two are no longer with us). So from those humble beginnings, I am here now today. What's the point of my long winded story? First, I don't feel it should be up to the current members to have to go out of the way to meet the newer members. Myself, I was introduced to one, and given a general description of where to meet others, and it went from there. Basically, new recruits should be given runes to places like Safe Haven and Olympus. How can we meet them if they don't make them selves locatable? Second, I dislike the phrase "recruitment." I guess to me, I would want to recruit people the way I was recruited: meet someone who really needs a good group, and basically make their day by inviting them. To me, going on "recruitment drives" like some have suggested feels to much like drafting. Third, I think the issue of squires needing sponsors was brushed aside. Having a sponsor (especially a good one like Argos) made a world of difference for me, and in the end, I paid him back for all his generosity. I see too many "Squire of Honor" titles among the guild. The current Knights and higher should go about finding someone to sponsor. This should also promote the "family" feel. Basically, this is the concept of taking someone under your wing, and making it "official." That is all I can think of at the moment, as my train of thought is being derailed by hunger! So in closing, I think both sides (the recruits and the veteran members) both need to take action. *leaves to grab some late night grub*
  14. Myself, Shal, and Charsi acounted for. (Possibly another coming soon)
  15. That's a bummer, but congrats on lasting a year! Har!
  16. Due to several factors, I'll be pushing off the planned romp to the Ophidian lair tommorow to next week (the 22nd), same time, same place.
  17. What I ended up doing is having to host the sig pic as my profile picture. However, that trick only works on the PGoH boards. I am still looking for someplace to host it so that I can use it on other forums.
  18. Urg it says I've already voted ... yet I haven't?
  19. *ninja*a superb warrior with mad skillz. resourceful; evasive; kick-ass [Final Fantasy Tactics Job Class]
  20. Praetorian Prefect Brightblade and myself decided tonight to check up on an old enemy of ours, the Ophidians. It has been a long time since the forces of PGoH have set foot in their desert lair. As we gated in, we immediately found ourselves under assault from all directions! Wave after wave of the snakes threw themselves at us, and we were forced to retreat many times. But our magics prevailed, and we fought back the hordes. What should have been a routine scouting mission turned into a fight for our lives ... The Ophidians have been allowed to go unchecked for far too long and have multiplied in numbers greatly. If they continue at this rate, they could start threatening the more civilized areas of the Lost Lands or perhaps even Britannia! This call is going out to all members of the Legion! Sunday the 15th, after the meeting (9 PM EST, give or take) all those going on this mission shall depart from Olympus and "thin the herds" of the Ophidians a bit. This is another excellent chance to practice group combat against large numbers of powerful enemies! Tactics and strategy will be discussed before we depart. *EDIT* It was brought to my attention that this date was supposed to be the used for Guild Picture taking ... so this date just became tenative.
  21. I have 15 Normal Boots and 10 Normal Sandals for ya ... drop me an ICQ when you're on again.
