  3. And of course, the Spirit of PGoH still remains with PGoH as well. We are still going strong, and will be for quite some time. We remain true to Stan's ideals and the ideals that were first established when the Guardians were created, and we are always a family. And as always, Strength and Honor!
  4. Stealth and hiding are a great set of skills. It’s one of the most useful, and when done properly, is a great tool for your roleplayed spy, assassin, or just for fun. However, when done wrong, as it is 90% of the time, it just ends up being annoying and unrealistic. Roleplaying is about realism, and when you just hit the hide button with a room full of people staring at you, you have just killed realism. This is the reason that most people despise stealthers, because they are done badly. So below are some tips and advice to help you be a better RP stealther. There are a lot of different ways to roleplay, but some things are generally agreed upon. Things like there are no names floating over peoples head, that you can’t see through walls, and that amazingly enough, line of sight exists. Many times newcomers to the roleplaying scene forget these things. It happens. Case in point, I have a character named Zora Liliana. When I first made her, I decided to do a little experiment. To date, she has never once said her name is Zora to anyone in the roleplaying community. And yet, I constantly have roleplayers come up to her and say ‘Hello Zora, how are you’. It amazes me at the vast amount of people who still tagread to get names right. You may be thinking right now that this seems to be a bit off topic, but it’s not. I’m proving a point here that even experienced roleplayers make mistakes sometimes, and some just don’t put forth as much effort as they could. Of course, I can’t expect everyone to remember what I’ve told them her name is, but I’ve come to accept that. However, stealthers have been annoying me for years with the way they just ignore all the rules, and then get irritated when you decide to do something back. First tip for stealthers is pretty easy. If you EVER open a door that I can see while you’re hidden, guess what, -I KNOW YOU’RE THERE-. And if I am friended, coowned, or the owner of the house you did that in, guess what, I’m going to use house detect hidden. Now, you may be wondering how you’re expected to get into a place hidden without opening the doors yourself. It’s very, very simple. You wait for someone else to open it, and you sneak in behind them. Then, the people in the building don’t immediately know you’re there, and you’re inside a place that you needed to get to. A simple solution to a simple problem. Okay, so you got in. Now what do you do if you suddenly get revealed? If you answered ‘Hit hide immediately and act like noone saw me’, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200. The correct answer is to invent something. Act like perhaps you just recalled in by accident, a faulty spell casting. Or perhaps you just woke up from a long hangover in the corner of the tavern your hidden in. This actually leads to another good tip, which is to always walk next to walls and other objects that you could conceivably be concealed by. That way, if you do get revealed, you can plausibly argue you were behind the dresser or something. Alright, let’s say you got in and that you’re good to go. You’re not getting revealed, but you have a new problem. Your character has reached the point that after enough spying, is ready to make his or her move. This leads to one of my absolute pet peeves of overlooked things, and that’s making your entrance. I’m particularly lengthy with Zora’s emotes, and tend to have her enter in fanciful ways. Now, if you’re indoors, you are probably going to want to emerge from a dark corner, or perhaps from behind a piece of large furniture. If you’re near stairs, perhaps you were concealing yourself at the top of the landing listening in, or just at the bottom listening to them. Indoors, your options are often very limited, as people don’t tend to decorate in an effort to conceal spies. So one of the most important things about stealthing is making your entrance believable. I cannot count how many times I’ve had people just ‘appear’ next to me with no explanation how they hid next to me while I was sitting next to a bright torch with no objects they could hide behind nearby. Let’s say you’re outside, listening in. Here you’ve got lots of fun options. Are there trees nearby? Trees are a great way to conceal yourself, by either hiding behind them carefully or hiding in the branches if it’s not a dead tree. Snow, there’s a great concealment tool. This is a good reason to carry several different colored robes so that you can wear a proper one to hide with. Let’s say your near a building, and this is one of my favorites. Are there any scalable walls in this building, or perhaps windows you could be hiding just inside or over? If so, you can make your entrance by simply leaping off the wall and landing in a crouch, or by hopping down from the windowsill. Regardless, It’s far better than just *POOF* appearing. Which leads to our final point for now about stealthing, or at least until I think about more. NEVER, EVER, EVER JUST HIDE WHEN PEOPLE ARE LOOKING AT YOU. This is the absolute MOST unrealistic thing you could ever do. I would rather someone just appear next to me a million times over than have one more stealther who thinks its funny to say a sentence, hide, say a sentence, hide. I can tell you after asking many people, that this is infuriating. Now, one of the ways you can deal with this is simple. Start running, and run for a corner, get out of line of sight, then hit the hide button. This is infinitely better than just vanishing in front of someone, and I highly recommend its use. Of course, if you’re a trained ninja, you have the option of smoke bombs. Smoke bombs are actually one of the only reasonable ways you could hide with people watching you, as a smoke bomb is sort of like a modern flashbang. It’s just a big diversion, to give you enough time and cover to make it to concealment. Another nice thing to do if you want to be very intensive with your roleplay is to make your exit the same way you make your entrance. Plot out ahead of time how you’re going to get away, have your smokebomb ready, and start emoting. I’ll give an example. A short time ago, I had my stealther giving people some clues about something outside a cave near a river. Now, I realized I needed a way for her to get away with all of them looking at her, but also make it realistic, so I had to think about it. What I ended up on deciding was this. I emoted *deftly pulls a white orb from her pocket, and hurls it at the ground exploding into a cloying cloud of smoke, as footsteps and then a splash is heard.* And then I used the smokebomb, so it actually sent up the smoke and hid me. That way, I explained how she got away in the short time her diversion got her, and still didn’t give them my exact location. This isn’t necessary, but it’s a nice touch for more detail. And as a final thought, try to remember that hiding and stealth are not a magical skill. Remember, just because you CAN hide anywhere at any time almost, doesn’t mean that you SHOULD. I cannot stress this enough, as it is so often argued ‘Well, I built it up this high and you’re telling me I can’t use it?’ What I’m saying is that everyone roleplays to have a bit of realism in their virtual reality, and anything we can do to contribute to the realism is always a helpful and good idea. Now, there is a form of magical hiding; It’s called the invisibility spell. Hiding is a skill, not a spell, so you should always try to think of it like a realistic skill that you could possibly use. For gamers, an easy way to think of it would be like Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series, or Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell series. When you are sneaking around as them, they don’t run out in the middle of an empty field in broad daylight and get away with it with people there. So just because in UO it lets you get away with it sometimes, doesn’t mean you should use it that way.
  5. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night spending it with family and friends. From myself to all of you in the family of PGoH, Merry Christmas
  6. It seemed the last warning had gone unheeded. It was time to deal with these so called Guardians in a way so vicious that none could ignore it. To strike directly at their heart, where they felt the most safe. Oh, this would be fun. It was easy enough to infiltrate the tavern. Though the walls were made of Trinsic Sandstone, they wouldn’t hold up to the force of the explosion. What had possibly possessed anyone to gather that much blackrock and store it, was beyond it’s ability to comprehend. Of course, it would make the perfect catalyst for what was sure to be a devastating blow to the morale of these guardians, who seemed to think all was well after dealing with the drow, Renor’Orbb. The orders were simple. Gather all the blackrock that he could find in the place, and set it off. Oh, what a beautiful explosion this was going to make. A small maniacal laugh was let loose, before he caught himself. Ah, but it would be too bad if those below were warned enough to get away. It was time to set things in motion… Bill had gotten to the tavern about as soon as Daniel’le had. He kept in touch with her and always made sure he was around when she opened it. After she opened the door he put his hand on the handle as he walked in, and hung his shield on the wall and put his spell book on the table. He looked at it for a minute, by which time Daniel’le had brought him his bottle of ale. He opened it and stared at it for a moment, before drinking the whole thing at once. He smiled to her as she bounced around in her usual manner. She was always fun to be around, so completely carefree and happy. He couldn’t help but grin a bit through his beard at her antics, and he turned and studied the fellow who walked in before recognizing it as Thom. He gave Thom a nod and a broad grin, and invited him to sit down and have a few. Bill had several drinks, and Daniel’le entertained them with her acrobatics, when Bill took a drink and stopped midway. He frowned a bit and looked up towards the ceiling. “Either o’ yer ‘ear ‘at?” “Hear what?” Daniel’le responded with a lilt in her voice. “It sounded like…” Bill started to say when the entire world went white in front of him, and then black. Bill pushed himself up off the hard sandstone floor, hearing nothing but a loud ringing and feeling sharp pain all over, especially his hands as he realized he was surrounded by shattered glass from the bottles. His vision was blurry and he had no idea where his hat had gone, as he felt sand blowing with the wind into the tavern. He could smell the burning wood all around him and he wiped his eyes with his forearms, blood from some other wound coming from his face as his vision cleared some. “Lass! LASS! WHERE ARE YER?” he cried out, trying to locate Daniel’le. He pushed around through the wreckage clumsily, until he came upon her. She was on the floor coughing, her clothes torn and slashed from shrapnel. He looked over and saw Thom being dragged out by his companion, obviously injured as he helped Daniel’le up and they evacuated the tavern. It wasn’t until they were outside that he could see how bad the damage was. Daniel’le and Thom were hurt, laying in the sand outside, but it didn’t look like either was going to die. He cast a spell of summon creature to get a pigeon, and he quickly cast a spell to make a message. He then sent it out to Trinsic to get the word spread about what happened…

  9. The person had decided to forego their usual disguise. After all, the guards were looking for someone wearing a shroud and cloak, not someone in normal clothes. Walking past the alert guards was no challenge for the killer and a smile was worn on the murderers face. A few false smiles and happy greetings were all it took to get anywhere in this city he wanted. Trinsic was easy, despite its 'Guardians'. The killer mused about having more trouble in Buccaneer's Den because everyone there was always on their toes, paranoid. But there were plenty bodies left by the murderer in Buc's Den to prove even that was not a problem. It had been more of a practice there...After tricking that fool Praetorian into chasing him, and that pathetic woman's creatures into doing the killer's work for them. The killer didn't want the Praetorian dead, not yet...When the killer went after that one, it would be a much more fitting end for one like him. The woman, Arakoth, had been a problem. The killer had been sloppy in silencing someone, and an unexpected blow had dislodged his hood, and the woman had seen the killer's face. She had immediately left for Trinsic, but the killer was close behind. The killer grinned at the thought of how much fun he had had watching her die. It had been an exhilirating experience. Unfortunately, though the Guardians and the town guard arrived too late for the woman, they found several things the killer hadn't wanted found out at this point. The killer had had to flee and left behind things, but the killer retrieved the most important items. As the killer walked through town they came to a deserted area and there was a running messenger there. In a kind voice, calling out to the man “Can you deliver a message for me?” “Why, yes, Certainly. What message do you want to send?” “Well, you are going to send it quite clearly. You don’t need to write a thing down.” With an incredibly swift movement, the killer grabbed the messenger by the throat and snapped his neck. The messenger crumpled to the ground and was then dragged to the South Gate of Trinsic. The killer set to work and slit the dead mans throat, and wrote a message on his white shirt in his own blood. In ragged letters it read You won‘t catch me, Guardians. My mission will be completed. With that the killer left and smiled about a job well done.

  20. An Excerpt of a chapter from my novel... Galen was led to an area marked by four bales of hay in a roughly square formation. His opponent was wearing chain mail armor that fit her quite well and had a sword at either side of her. Galen unslung his shield and held it with his left arm. She drew both her swords and came at him quickly, advancing upon him. Galen didn’t draw his sword yet. “Don’t insult me by trying to go easy, Red. I guarantee you I’m the equal of any man you’ve ever faced.” Galen thought back to the man who had first trained him, and hoped that wasn’t the case or this would be a short fight indeed. Galen had the wrist dagger, but he wouldn’t risk it with no practice of his aim. She got within range and he drew his broadsword in a flash, trying to strike within her guard and swipe across her chain mail tunic. She took the blade on her own in a very close block, indicating to Galen that he really had gotten close. She came down with her blade quickly and Galen took the hit on his shield with a loud noise and he glanced to the sidelines and saw people taking bets. He grinned a bit that a few were taking bets on ‘the fiery headed mercenary’. Galen waded in and made several quick slashes with his blade at her and she parried each one with one of her own blades. Galen kept her on the defensive though, and she couldn’t hit back. Then just as she was about to try a strike he lashed out with his blade in an over handed strike. She took it on both her blades due to the strikes power, and Galen swung his shield. It impacted her in the chest and she gasped for breath from the surprise and the force of the hit. The woman glared at him, and came at him in a fury. Galen was extremely worried now. It seemed as if she was in a rage and that was bad for Galen. If she intended to hurt him she just had to get in one good hit. Galen was on the defensive now and as he kept taking hits and backing up she gave him a feral grin. “Time to die!” she screamed as she brought down both blades and Galen dropped himself to the ground and rolled aside, then leapt up and faced her again. She came at him in a fury her blades slashing all over the place, leaving great furrows on his shield. He backed up another step… And she completely stopped. Smiling at him she sheathed her swords. “You went out of bounds Gale.” Galen looked and found he really had gone out of the boundaries, and he looked at her as a smile blossomed onto his face. “You were tricking me the whole time with that enraged look. You never lost control at all, did you?” “It’s always easier to win a fight if you scare your opponent into thinking you’re crazy.” The woman gave him that feral grin again as she winked, and then walked off.
  21. Actually, i have class. Oh well, maybe next time
  22. There are no artifacts dropping in tokuno dungeons, only in the overland. Also, thank goodness, the hideous bright dyes are not a choice this time. However, the 10 use pigments of tokuno that spawn will be a normal armor color, all of which can be seen if you check the www.uo.com website and follow the announcements about them.
  23. The Treasures of Tokuno campaign has returned. Ever wanted a rune beetle carapace, or kasa of the Ra-jin? For one or two weeks, this campaign is back. Details can be found here. By this, you can expect that we as a guild will be doing several hunts in tokuno this coming week, and i encourage you all to hunt by yourselves there as well, as much of this armor is excellent. Until i get home from class, -Kodoz
