  1. I'm tired of being a doomsayer but I have to say at the moment this article (http://www.swtor-lif...-analysis/7054/) sums up many of my feelings about what's going on right now.

You're not being a doomsayer. Its not yours or anyone else's fault but Bioware and EA for what happened. As we discussed so many times in the past the fans and subscribers were SCREAMING what to change. Instead of listening, they mocked us. Now they are all going to be unemployed. So sad.

  2. Well, they are basically letting you get a single player experience for free, multiplayer you have to pay to play. Which makes sense, since the game is basically a single player game while leveling, with an MMO end game.

I had a big post typed up on how wrong you are, Kailand....but I know you too well. You will argue your point to the ends of the earth no matter how wrong you are! Its ok. We all know EA is terrible and they really crapped all over this game. It still makes me angry....VERY angry.... This could have been the greatest online game!

EA's CEO calls pushing a subscription model in a largely free-to-play market "challenging."

Talking to CNBC at Fortune's Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, CEO John Riccitiello confirmed that EA is looking into

"different models to bring more users into [The Old Republic]," but he stopped short of substantiating rumors that the game may be going entirely free-to-play.

"Our conclusion was we had a great product inStar Wars, but that the subscription model in the world of free-to-play was challenging," he said.

The Old Republic has already partially embraced the free-to-play model. The game recently started offering extended free trials which let aspiring Sith lords play up to level 15, a move many critics have been quick to label a grim portent of the game's impending implosion.

News that the The Old Republic has been shedding subscribers by the thousands, developer, BioWare, has been laying off staff and numerous

key figures have walked away from the studio have done little to allay rumors that the game may have to go free-to-play.

Riccitiello also claimed that investors are relying too heavily on monthly NPD reports to gauge EA's performance. He pointed out that NPD's reports only track retail sales in the US and don't take into account EA's blossoming digital business.

Amid rumors of further layoffs at BioWare Austin, The Old Republic Executive Producer Richard Vogel confirms that he has left the company.

    BioWare's

Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO has suffered another big blow as the executive producer on the game, long time Star Wars guy Richard Vogel, has confirmed his departure. Vogel had been with BioWare Austin since the beginning, co-founding the studio in 2005, and had served as executive producer on The Old Republic since June 2010. Prior to that, he'd spent five years working on the "other" Star Wars MMO, Sony's Star Wars Galaxies.

BioWare Austin also reportedly laid off an unspecified number of workers today, although it's currently not clear whether those are "fresh" layoffs or simply those that were

announced in May finally taking effect. BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk said at the time that the studio was "bidding farewell to some talented, passionate and exceptionally hard-working people," but didn't specify how many were being cut or when they'd be shown the door.

    After a

record-breaking start, Star Wars: The Old Republic stumbled, losing subscribers and even considering a transition to free-to-play. To help combat the slippage, BioWare recently implemented a new trial mode that allows players to create characters in any class and take them all the way to level 15 at no charge.

Vogel's departure reportedly came ahead of today's layoffs. BioWare has not yet announced who will assume his role at the studio.

    UPDATE: BioWare has confirmed with

GamesIndustry that the layoffs reported on Tuesday are part of the staffing cuts that were originally announced in May.

"As announced in May and detailed at E3, the BioWare Austin team is refining Star Wars: The Old Republic to continue to grow the game and the service," a rep said. "As with the launch of any MMO, the size and skillset of the teams needed to maintain the game is different than the ones that built it. Starting in May, there have been staff reductions in the BioWare Austin studio. Some people have been platooned to other projects at BioWare Austin and EA SPORTS/Austin. Others have been released - qualifying personnel receive severance and outplacement assistance."

  5. Alright, I should be available for the majority of Tuesday to do what ever is needed to be done. I've already started draining out the coffers on Shien, though about half way through I started thinking is all this really necessary? Most of what is left is just schematics no one would want to use in the first place anywho.

don't spend much time messing with it. honestly, its mostly sell loot!
