  1. I also had a hard time motivating myself to turn many of the materials in, especially since I could net so much more needed cash from the sale of minerals on the AH. Then I thought about these few things that helped me get more in-gear with it...

First and foremost, Verissi wants her epic mount and, considering how poor my finances always are, gaining rep only helps me reduce the cost (just a bit, but when you're staring at an 7-800g pricetag and barely have over 100g at any given time, even a savings of a few gold helps). Side benefits of the increased rep are cheaper repairs as well, which saves me a ton of money over a longer period of time.

Secondly, it's something that's actually interesting and different to do. Having a 60, I am often standing around looking for something to do in between Bloodhoof defences....this gives me a little diversion and has even provided me with a bit of motivation to get some of my alts' skills up. Since money is still a bit tight, I generally split my time between gathering for the war effort and gathering things that always sell well otherwise (iron, usually).

The "reward items" are actually dead-last in my motivation book. I've found it funny that Waldonnis gets level 50ish gear in his boxes, but Verissi gets level 9 or 10 mail every time (I DE every bit of that stuff and sell the higher level things unless someone in our BG bracket can use it).

As for the new content that this will unlock...meh, I don't generally care whether or not I ever see it, personally, but I agree with Volonazra...it's probably just a matter of time before we all end up in there.

In the end, I think it comes down to personal choice. If someone doesn't want to gather for the war effort, I certainly won't think less of them and can understand the reasoning. For me, it's just something new to do and play with, with some smaller side benefits for me that are far more valuable than a dungeon that I probably won't see in the next year or so.

  2. I have been meaning to look into writing some of my own add-ons, so this sounds like a good idea to start down that path (pro programmer for years). I'll see what I can do with it and try to figure out the best way to actually log the donations. I have ideas, but want to confirm the event sequence so that we're not logging unrelated transactions. Not sure how long it'll take, though, but I'll try to put some work into it this weekend.

In the meantime, manual tracking is probably the best method.

  3. I love the extra auction houses.

Curious to see how the Paladin population responds to their changes.

    lol

Here's to hoping that I'll be able to play tonight (didn't have much luck the day 1.8 came out).

I'm also curious to see how the new auction houses work out, although I think I'm more interested to see how the linked LFG/trade channels end up.

As for the paladins, I just hope they don't read the very fine print in the patch notes or I may get clobbered a bit more frequently :D I'm also not looking forward to the eye-for-an-eye thing...getting my spells partially reflected back at me is not going to be fun.

  4. That thread is definitely worthy of an evening drama series. Sounds like the Alliance is so busy tearing each other to pieces that they forget that we're the enemy :D

I seriously hope they get it together soon, though. Steamrolling them (even when painful on the gear/kill count) is getting dull...I'd much rather have a good, tough match. Also, if they keep up the arguing, we may not have opponents since they won't want to queue with each other :(

  5. Sorry that I missed it (although I was in TS for it). V slipped down a rank and some PvP chances opened up, so I had to take them. World PvP has been VERY lacking lately, aside from the extremely one-sided UC invasions...I don't do BGs with her, so I take what I can get :D

Sounded like fun, though, and I'm still chuckling about the pitchfork :)

  6. I'm willing to help farm for the Essence of Earth because that will also increase Hydraxxian Waterlord faction in the process.

It's very hit and miss for the drop rate on them, but it can be done. An hour could yield about 2 of them solo, with 2 or more people helping it should be a lot faster. If I help, all Essences that drop are yours. I'm along to help and gain a little faction in the process.

I haven't ventured into DM yet, but I am willing to go if we can schedule it and get a group together to go.

I can help farming the Essences with Verissi (60 mage, for all who didn't already know) if we can get an organised effort together. Also, I need to drag her through DM to do the crystal water quest anyway, so I'm up for a visit there as well.

  7. My pleasure...I fish for fun and BG food anyway, so oily blackmouths and firefins (amongst others) don't have much use for me.

I also have a bunch of recipes and patterns for blacksmith (mostly) and alchemist...I'll see what I have and post the list if anyone wants them. I hate listing patterns and recipes in the AH anyway. You never know when you'll need that specific item made and would rather know the new owner so I know who to talk to if I do
