    HITCHING POST

    To enhance the roleplay and area control of a house location with respect to pets. Placeable one tile from South face of building or wall. Hitching post would keep pets from wandering but if the pet became wild it would break the bind with the Hitching post.

    PEARLS

    Fishermen currently fish up sea shells from shipwrecks....soo

    ADD oyster shell as a named seashell that is FISHED up or NETTED up.

    Utilize the existing graphics for some shells

    Use skinning knife on them

    Randomly hold a white pearl (black pearl graphic..but white)

    Tinker skill to make necklace.

    Necklace grahic for pearl necklace is white strand not gold.

    tis a little thing but would be a nice reward over shoes or sandals...hehe

    FORENSIC SKILL

    Forensic skill is the study of a corpse. In this currently we learn only who has desicrated the corpse.

    Allow Forensic skill to FIND either

    a treasure map on a Monster Corpse(hidden somewhere on a corpse....yuck)

    OR

    a parchment ticket on a NPC Corpse(given to an NPC listed on ticket results in reward....ie notifying next of kin hehhe)

    Then...being a detective may provide a living more than just a view of who killed and looted the corpse.

    LOST SOULS

    With all the escorts that ask to be taken to Dungeons and those that give up waiting and go off on foot into the wilds....most are never seen again.

    Well, Mages are the way to escort current NPC adventurers who will then reward quite handily the Mage that does thier bidding.

    For the NON Mage here is a way to do some equal good and provide a nice reward to ones coffers.

    LOST SOULS.....visible ghosts that wander the wilderness or dungeons and can be ressurected ONLY by bandages. Yes this is targeting the footsoldiers and the wandering healers

    (note wandering.....travel on foot...not gate...so along that line....that such person would not be able to cast gate)

    ADDED AND MODIFIED SECTION of LOST SOULS (Apr 2002)

    This would gain you progression toward COMPASSION Virtue path

    OR

    The reward from the LOST SOUL once ressurected with bandages would be a map and key to a chest in a city or dungeon they were seeking to travel to. This chest would appear once they were ressurected and be on a 15 minute timer.

    OR

    Perhaps....IF the RESSER DECLINED the map/key through some accept/decline popup (like putting a bounty on someone) then they would receive COMPASSION VIRTUE progression....if they accepted it....they received the map/key but NO COMPASSION VIRTUE progression.

    OR

    They get BOTH progression AND the key/map gifty from the ghost they rescued.

    (NOTE-Lost Souls would be within the server that the chest would appear...thus allowing travel by foot to be able to reach chest before it vanished in 15 minutes)

    GUILD GM RANKING

    Ok.....now given that Veteran status is able to be bought with gold. I offer to the realm and powers to be a method for ranking of guilds in a fashion more reflective of character/members efforts to achieve the highest performance and abilities.

    GRANDMASTER SKILLS

    Simply put.....a tally of all the Grandmaster skills that have been achieved by the membership. These skill achievements would be displayed in a list similar to the AVG Skills list.

    Grandmaster Skills is the most reflective of TIME spent by the member toward his profession.

    A guilds power is in numbers and ability of those numbers.....Grandmasters are the top performers of skills.....let us see who has the most and the most of which skills do they possess the Grandmastery of.

    PEACEMAKING

    The life of a minstrel is tied directly to the current attention of the player base, which is overwhelmingly attached to gold gathering, rare sales and reagent/resource economics.   Peacemaking currently gives one an escape window, but in Trammel that is simply a measurment of how much dexterity one has to outrun the adversaries.  

    Imagine if you will a minstrel that walks the city playing his tunes and as in the effect radius that peacemaking works on...a success or failure in pleasing the NPCs (possibly PCs) within the radius occurs.  If successful the reward is given like the beggars reward currently in terms of gold between 1 and 20 gold pieces.

    Effect per minstrel would be tied to the system loop/save and not allow repeat success until after this loop or time.

    Yes....one can still set up performances near a large group of players.....this would be a means for the minstrel to work outside the requirement of combat or PC generosity....the common folk NPC instead.

    NOTE: IF PCs are additionally effected the gold reward could either be calculated into the reward factor and not come directly from the PC or the NPC but from the heavens.....pennies from heaven....opps gold from heaven.

    TINKERING/BOWCRAFT

    Tinkering is the use of gears, hinges, fine tuning instruments and mechanics.....one weapon is built on this principal....the Crossbow.

    I propose a bonus addition that improves the crossbow along the lines as the magic modifiers currently do.

    JOURNEYMAN TINKER/GM BOWCRAFT

    Durable +10 to item HP AND Accurate +4.6 to Archery

    EXPERT TINKER/GM BOWCRAFT

    Substantial +20 to item HP AND Accurate, Surpassingly +9.3 to Archery

    ADEPT TINKER/GM BOWCRAFT

    Massive +30 to item HP AND Accurate, Eminently +14.0 to Archery

    MASTER TINKER/GM BOWCRAFT

    Fortified +40 to item HP AND Accurate, Exceedingly +18.7 to Archery

    GRANDMASTER TINKER/GM BOWCRAFT

    Indestructible +50 to item HP AND Accurate, Supremely +23.3 to Archery

    This same principal could then be utilized also with SMITHS and ARMSLORE for the melee weapons.

    and even dare I say......SMITHS with ARMSLORE, MAGIC,  INSCRIPT and  (ANATOMY or ANIMAL LORE)to produce various magic weapons potent against certain things.

    ARMOR STAND

    This item would be a modification of the current Dress stand...only this would work as a container but SHOW pieces of armor on it externally.  

    Helm, chest, legs, arms, gloves and gorget.

    KEG/VAT/BARREL for Bar

    This would be built as the potion kegs are currently but with a required TASTE ID tie in as well as COOKING.  Since the Keg itself would need curing to make sure the contents later placed in it would not spoil(yuck).

    Same requirements of supplies to build but the graphic would be like a keg on is side with the tap coming out of the bottom...like a traditional keg would be in a bar.   These kegs could be filled with ale, wine, liquor, water, milk....and yes they would be tagged with the creators namesake.

    ie....Keg of ale crafted by XXXXXXXX or Barrel of Wine crafted by XXXXXXXX or Vat of liquor crafted by XXXXXX etc etc.

  2. SCULPTOR PROFESSION (March 1999 revised April 2002) Colin Mor

    Now that Boulders exist and tools for stonework can be utilized........it is even closer to the day a Sculptor comes to be a new profession.

    I am revisiting this 1999 Idea and retweeking using existing new wrinkles that have been made available to us.

    Sculptor is the tradesman who has the combined abilites of Mining, Tinkering, Carpentry, Animal Lore, Anatomy, Item Identification and Inscription.

    Mining=ability to work with rock

    Tinkering=detailed ability with hands

    Carpentry=understanding of structure and size relationships

    Animal Lore=understanding of Animal/Beast form

    Anatomy=understanding of Humanoid form

    Inscription and Item Identification=ability to write name onto base of sculpture

    Resources are Boulders

    Tools are Chisel set

    Utilizing a targeting cursor......sculptor could then have name of target transferred onto the sculpture. This creates the ability to have a STUDIO for the Roleplay activity. OR more daring sculptors could seek wild beasts or monsters and attempt to capture thier image in stone.....before they get eaten or pummeled heheh

    Pop up screen would have options of various sculptures (many forms of these exist already in busts small, large, minatures etc) THESE would NOT BE COLORED like minature vet rewards......these would only be color of boulders they came from....some only smalls made but some perhaps could be made LARGE for use in a guild hall or great room.

    Perhaps in time more forms or poses of statues could be designed...but for now....one could have thier own BUST or that of thier guild founders or leader(s) made or a statue of thier great hunt (NOT all Evil can be made into trophys.....this would allow such to occur)....

    Cyclops Statue or Juka warrior for example

    Imagine an evil roleplaying guild that worshipped a giant spider (perhaps the Champion Mephitis for example)......it would be large and take up say 8 tiles....Imagine them hiring this sculptor to get it....well he would need to get a visual of it first....and then the fun starts for everyone in making that happen.

    Some namesakes could be coded as not possible to inscribe I guess to deal with naugty or illegal yada yada yada.

    ARTIST would be similar to SCULPTOR but he/she would not use ROCK but a Painting easle and would NOT have Mining but Alchemy to mix paints (look like decorating tool but called oilpaint) which he/she makes from Oilflask and Flower petals (clored nightshades) which are cut (scissors) from Flowers like kinlin is shave off trees now

    Alchemy would create ink(looks like decorating tool) to then use on the easle....success would yeild a choice of paintings and then the similar targeting thing could be utilized....etc etc

    the fun of what to paint goes on an on an on.....heheh

  3. Arcane Brazier (Aug 2000) Colin Mor & SerBrightblade

    GRAPHIC=common arbitor that exists with game with burning embers in it.

    RESOURCES=Item to be enchanted/embued or recharged along with various of the reagents unused now.....pig iron, volcanic ash, blackmoor, dead wood....etc depending on WHAT was to be the magical property. (SEE NECROMANCY Section or THAURMATURGY)

    OPERATION-Opens like a container where an item of metal can be placed within it along with gems required to charge or recharge it.

    INFO and MISC

    Gems in combination, like reagents, would be required for various enchantments or varieties of charges

    AND/OR

    the gems and an existing magical weapon or armor could then be recharged to a determined level not to unbalance the weapon...ie 1000 charges is way too high.....should need to upkeep the weapon.

    Leathers, cloth and wood would be recharged in the same manner in another shade of Arcane Brazier

    Any item recharged would automatically lose ONE level of its strength interms of melee power or defense along lines of current repair losses...BUT the magical prowess would remain..ie fireball, lightning etc

    Benefits would be gems become more utilized and this system lends itself GREATLY to the roleplay aspect and skill tie in abilities that will continue to spread out and eliminate the jack of all trades capabilities.

    This offers new professions on many levels taking advantage of skill tie ins.

    To make the Arcane Brazier the crafter would need Smithing, Tinkering, Carpentry, Magic and (Armslore or Tailoring depending on which one made)

    To use the Arcane Brazier the Enchanter would need Item Identification, Magic, Aclhemy, Resist, and (Tinkering-metals or Tailoring-cloths or Carptentry-wooden)

    Graphic lightning bolt would occur then a flamestrike followed by an explosion onto the Brazier (and damage the user REGARDLESS of distace if they tried to run from blast)

    NOTE: think of the almost humorous old magic man  :D  who seems to blow himself up alot in his experiments but then.......he finallly gets it right.....hehehe high resist is needed to survive.....if user dies.......ITEM IS DESTROYED

    *wiping soot and and ash from his face the blackened Enchanter smiles....only his eyes and teeth are white....but proud he is....he has done it.....magic restored to his staff......watch out world.*

  4. Reports coming in of skirmishes  :sword:   with Dragoon Elite Columns  :D have yielded that these Heavily Armored Melee warriors have been said to be using VANQUISHING weapons. :D

    Prometheus is designated today as the Swamp Dragon executioner.....he will clean up any Swamp Dragons that the Heran Knights do not wish to tame.

    Hephestos will be the designated smith to receive all Dragon scales we harvest.....give scales to Praetorian Prefect SerBrightblade to deliver to Safe Haven.

    I would like to see every member at least get one Vanquishing weapon for themselves and/or thier melee member of thier family if they be a non melee warrior this evening.

    Gems will be given to Ancient Martok for delivery to Colin Mor and the Imperial treasury

    For every group we create ....assign one Mage to be the primary looter...when he is overburdened....fall back to the bank....Vanquishing weapons the primary looter is responsible to keep track of thier team on who has received one.

    Lets make sure we appreciate Prometheus being solo and out of group by finding him a very nice Vanquishing weapon.  :D

  5. I have been up all night so I will TRY to make this short......need sleep bad.

    I am asking everyone to evaluate your characters...those that are best for battle....lets move them into Legion titles suting them.

    IF you have a STATE or SENATE role that is a NON COMBAT Roleplayed position and that character is who you regularily use for battle.....lets move him to the Legion lines and title one of your alternates that are Non combat into the role.

    ONLY if this is possible........some people only have warriors...but it would be stronger for our storylines development if we can fill the Lines with warriors and not

    tradesmen titles.

    If anyone has such a case Private message me or post any questions below here.

    AGAIN......ONLY if you find that the character you prefer to take to battle is titled a SENATE or STATE NON COMBAT ROLE would this be what I am talking about.

  6. OFFICIAL RP Realm event will be in Trinsic and under PGoH leadership starting at 7pm EST at the WESTERN GATE of TRINSIC. 4/25/2002

    As many PGoH members as physically are possible are asked to arrive at the Trinsic Barracks at 630pm EST READY FOR BATTLE (supplied and ready) and proceed as a group to the Western gates at 7pmEST to meet up with GoL and VK guilds.

    The plan is a simple one....eliminate the Invaders of the mother city.  The city has been broken down into sections for this event and PGoH has its NW Quarter...GoL has the Paladin Island, The East Gate and Honor Bridge and the middle East West Road...VK has the Southern Gate and Industial section of Trinsic.  ALL Guilds have West Gate responsibility.

    At 7pm EST all will assemble at the West Gate area for a massive screenshot....then I will patrol the city viewing our progress.

    IF sections of Trinsic begin to be lost (ie guilds losing battles) we will pull back into the Barracks area and BUILD a blockade of granite Boulders at the Arch of HONOR location. (ANYONE who has an orc mask please go to the Orc Dungeon and gather up granite boulders and I will show you where to place the bag(s) of them (we will need about 20 boulders).

    This should be a hell of alot of fun for everyone and I pray the code for the champion spawns will be in effect.....ie spawn builds and builds up heavier and heavier....NO CHAMPION will appear BUT that will give us a mini slowdown period to bank and refit.....before the cycles restart.

    I just found out our old friend Arthil is moving to Washington DC now that his wife is being transferred to the Pentagon.

    Necron (his son) was accepted for a position in a hospital so he is moving too with Dad.

    A halbred(sorta like a pike ehhe) seemed to cut down

    Lord after Lord with MUCH greater ease and speed

    Together 2 of us cross healed and neither fell

  12. This is a forum for those who have fun in the Star Trek Bridge Commander (you are Captain of ship) that runs Senarios that you must complete........and the other game of Armada II which has the similarity of Age of Empire sim building and senarios that you must complete.

    BOTH games offer you an internet option for combat similations :cry:

    If interest in these games grows....I would consider expanding The Honor Empire Challenge (see Star Wars Battlegrounds forum) into these or other game engines.

  13. Every so often The Honor Empire will host a Battlegrounds event where 7 members will have a shot at winning bragging rights (until the next match) :devil: and a large pizza delivered to your door (if available in your home area)  :cry:  

    Currently Martok is the reigning champion having beaten myself in a one on one battle  :D  

    He knocked me off after 5 years of unbeaten streak across 3 different game engines....Age of Empires I and II, Star Wars Rebellion and Star Wars Galaxies....well done Martok!!!

This is a game similar to Age of Empires.....that is built around Castle building and Sieging.  Although you cannot go into large battles against multiple computer adversaries like in the Age of Empires and Star Wars Battlegrounds :D  ....the Multiplayer arena :D  is the place to do that.....if you dare!!!!!! :)

    The Campaigns are very challenging at the Normal level each Campaign has 4 or 5 parts....the 4th and 5th are insanity. :D

    I have yet to finish the 1st Campaign....dagbum Rat bustard King :cry:

    I have this game and would host any event members wish to embark upon.

  16. Lord Blackthorn has begun .....BEGUN a siege on Trinsic.

    We lost Trinsic to Juo Nar once for a period of time...we CANNOT allow this siege by Lord Blackthorn to take hold.

    (SCENARIOS are FLUID.......players can win or lose territory)

    Trinsic is ours to protect.........and we need to PUSH them OUT of Trinsic.

    We lost Trinsic to Juo Nar once for a period of time...we CANNOT allow this siege by Lord Blackthorn to take hold.

  19. Dragon smith hammers look like red sledge hammers. It takes tinker tools and 4 iron ingots. At 50 tinkering its 22% chance of making one, and the option appears under the tools sections. The hammer lets you make 6 diffrence colors of scalemail. The armor itself takes a combination of iron ingots and scales of the matching color. The armor seems to have almost the same difficulty to make as platemail, just slightly easier to make.

    tailors are getting new hides that will be off dragons, drakes, sea serpents, etc to make more varieties of leather armors

  20. Well....3 years after the accident....I finally have had the surgery to clean out my left knee. (worker comp injury)

    Thursday was the end of a long 6 year fight of injuries(3 knee repairs L=R=L) and illness(Graves Disorder)....though there was a year gap after the first knee surgery that I was fine...it did not last long.

    Thursday also therefore was the beginning of a new era for me...recovery(4 more days), rehab(4 weeks), rebuilding(6 months) and refitting(rest of year till this time 2003).

    I will be enjoying the return to the more physical aspects of my life....weight training and tennis....and yes I will return to the tennis circuit on the East Coast USTA in 2003 and the over 35 satilite circuit (man I got old quick) perhaps in late 2003 but definetly in 2004.

    This does not mean I will be ending any online activity...no...it just means I will replace my down time(knee couldnt run or sit for long periods) when I wasnt on computer with my gym time.  In fact I will have more time since...in the flavor of Gail Devers (US Gold medalist with Graves)  

     

    I guess I got my wish ....always thought eating was a waste of time...still have to watch the pizza though.. :cry:

    Throughout this past 6-year period of my life I have met many of you....and through your friendships, activities and inspirations...I have grown and overcome a quite dark time of my life.  (Graves nearly killed me in ER room 2 times)  

    I look forward to the future adventures and encounters with you....my online friends and family......the future of online entertainment is ours to make.....the industry is still a newborn and barely taking its first steps.  This is what this site was built to be used for....a hub...a collective of minds and spirits of people everwhere....focused as one supporting each other and enjoying company.

    Ultima Online has expanded exponentially in game and still has one more expansion due to come (No, do not know what it is....just know there IS ONE MORE to come)

    Dark Age of Camelot has launched and now works through the community building phase

    Everquest is strong and has more expansions possible to the game engine.

    Shadowbane is the most anticipated engine of all currently with Star Wars to pick up huge steam in this next month with the release of Episode II

    On the Horizon is ...hehe Horizons Empires of Istaria and the World of Warcraft.

    I was recently asked if we could home an Asheron's Call division...and this will be another new site for members to explore if they wish (new expansion version said to be wild and clean up the shortcomings of the first version of AC)

    We all know the pitfalls of redundancy and repetitive play format.....boredom set in....hence this is the basis of the website.....home and hub for options together.  Taking time off from one game and exploring another engine is a good thing....can be a fun thing....in an essence it is an expansion of you into another world of online entertainment experience.

    Who knows where this will take some of us....new jobs...new places...new challenges........but at least new friends.

    Ultima Online will be my main home base on this hub and I will support you all on your other engines you choose to call your home base.  There is too much of us and me IN the fabric of UO history and engine...I will always be part of UO.

  21. Book Wyrm part 2

    The morning sun rose from the eastern sea and as it burned off the nights chill, small birds sang their songs of sunrise.  In the distance could be heard the calls of harbormasters coordinating the arrival of new trade ships and the echo of caravan horses trotting into the mother city of Trinsic.  This was part of the beauty and simplicity of mornings; everything anew and the air had not been filled with record of days activities.

    Dr Codene, had spent the night in Olympus after an unnerving evening at the Infirmary.  Though Olympus held no beds, he had found the cushion of Emperor Borg’s Throne comfort enough to drift into slumber.  Had not a pair of small birds chasing each other in playful flight through the chamber awoken him, the Dr may have slept till noon.  Alas, even an old man has his duties to perform and Dr Codene stretched and wiped the sandman’s work from his eyes.   Standing and moving toward the doorway he could feel the warmth of the morning sun begin to fill Olympus Castle with energy.  The clock on the wall read nearly 7am and like clockwork his morning calling for breakfast rumbled within his stomach.  As he exited the Emperor’s chamber he turned and propped himself up between a pair of wall stones and looked out over the bay toward Trinsic.  A beautiful site the city of Trinsic is in the morning he thought as the tops of the buildings glistened like jewels and families of birds darted in and out of the treetops.  Taking in deep breathes Dr Codene searched for a familiar flavor.

    “You think Anakkin has breakfast ready yet?” asked a voice from above the Dr’s right shoulder.

    “Not yet, but Nona the baker does have fresh muffins ready” answered Dr Codene.

    “Tis a beautiful sight m’lord….how far can you see from up there?” asked Dr Codene.

    “Yes…this is a sight to behold….from this rampart one can see all the way to the Honor Shrine”; replied Emperor Borg who stood on the rampart above his chamber.

    Gliding down on the morning air, Emperor Borg greeted Dr Codene formally and asked if he could join him for breakfast.  As the two began to make their way downstairs they spoke about personal matters and as brothers enjoyed the simple company on each other.  Leaving the Olympus Castle,  the pair chose to walk toward Trinsic to enjoy further the morning warmth and awakening of the day around them.  The pair reached the western gates of Trinsic and the keen nose of Dr Codene picked up Anakkin’s work.

    “Ahh………that man is an artist”; Dr Codene remarked as he took in a deep breath of air.

    Smiling back to Dr Codene, Emperor Borg nodded and the two continued on to Nona’s shop to pick up a tray of muffins to take to breakfast at the Imperial Mess hall.  As they reached  the shop Emperor Borg could see a squad of Shadowriders heading to the Arch of Honor from the Southern gates area.

    “Seems Anakkin’s work is reaching many this morning Dr”; remarked Emperor Borg.

    “Egads…we must hurry….young men have deep stomachs”; added Dr Codene.

    Purchasing their muffins and some pots of honey, Dr Codene and Emperor Borg moved toward the Arch of Honor and the Imperial Trinsic Barracks.  Though only half past 7am they could already hear activity in the Youth Bureau as aspiring men and women trained for their role in the Legion.  Nearing the barracks area the sound of heavy horse passing under the Arch of Honor came from behind them.

    ”For HONOR and Empire”; a trio of voices exalted.  

    The trio of Cataphractii, heavily armored cavalry Dragoons, soon arrived at the barracks and as they dismounted and rushed to the mess hall.  Emperor Borg opened the door and Dr. Codene entered and was followed by the three Dragoons.  Emperor Borg welcomed them all in and it was a bit of a humorous moment as the trio had been so interested in getting to the table they did not at first recognize the doorman was their Emperor.  Embarrassed the trio stopped and fumbled a bit at the doorway until Emperor Borg put them at ease with a smile and comment.

    “If you don’t hurry up and get inside….the Dr will surely finish off all the muffins and we all will have a cold plate of eggs and bacon.”; Emperor Borg said as he put his arm around one of the shoulders of the Dragoon.

    The hall was a buzz with morning chatter and the rich smell of Anakkin’s breakfast splendor.  As the door to the mess hall closed, one by one the hungry men recognized who was with them this morning for breakfast.  Standing and passing salutations Emperor Borg asked them to please return to the fine meal.  It was as well the humor of Gladiator Felix Felthwin who, in his hast to salute, slapped a fork full of eggs onto his own face….that put the room back to ease and enjoyment of the breakfast.

    “As long as their courage is as strong as their appetite….I think we will be fine indeed”; commented Dr Codene.

    “Agreed Dr….but your eyes tell me that you worry about more than their appetite or simple courage”; replied Emperor Borg.

    Looking at Emperor Borg, Dr Codene nodded slowly and added: “Yes….there more, but I know not what to say as of yet.”

    “Still studying those books Dr?”; asked Emperor Borg as he held out a plate for Anakkin to fill with eggs.

    “Yes…until I know more, I have locked them up until I can find some reference material to help me in translating several of the texts.  The writings are ancient and I have never seen such in any of the libraries, even in the great libraries in Britain or in Moonglow’s Lyceum.” Dr Codene answered.

    As the two began to enjoy the breakfast, Emperor Borg offered a possible solution; “Then perhaps you should seek one who is an Ancient….and I do not mean one of our own.”

    Emperor Borg placed a forkful of egg and his demeanor turned a bit serious as he looked at Dr Codene; who now froze a bit and gulped deeply realizing what the Emperor meant.

    “Don’t worry old brother….give me what questions you wish and I will get your questions answered.  Besides…Ancient Wyrms tend to enjoy company…..at least once and a while”; added Emperor Borg.

    “Did I hear Wyrm…..like in Wyrm hunt?”; asked one of the Legion.

    The room began to quiet a bit and Emperor Borg looked over toward the eager Legion Shadowrider and replied; “Soon brother….yes we may need to do a Wyrm hunt…for now…scout out the location in Ilshenar where one can be found and contained.  We need to seek its council on matters we will explain later after the Wyrm has answered some questions.”

    “Very good sire….we shall find it.”; replied the Shadowrider.

  22. CHAPTER 4

    The Book Wyrm

    part 1

    Sitting in the Infirmary office, Dr Codene places the satchel of books he had gathered from the Vampire’s lair onto the desk.  Lighting a small burner flame nearby the room begins to glow and flicker with light.  It is a cool evening and the clear sky and slight wind combine to chill the air. The good Dr. stands and lights a second burner to heat up water for a cup of his favorite tea.  Sitting back down the cool breeze gusts outside as he opens the satchel of books.  Writing down into a journal he records their titles and condition.  Briefly skimming pages he lists a general context for the book.  Some of the books are written in language unfamiliar to him while other are in common tongue.  Many are written in what appears to be blood and after a simple test on a sample the assumption is confirmed.  Nearly finished with this recording of the books; Dr Codene reaches into the satchel and his finger is cut by a sharp edge of a book.  Opening the satchel wider and carefully looking inside he can see a dark covered book with metal bindings and ancient etchings.  He picks up the book with both hands and a drop of his blood that remained on one of the metal binding seems to vanish into the cover itself….or was that the light flickering doing tricks to his eyes?  

    Examining the book from all sides, Dr Codene cannot find any text…only a symbol on the cover.  The symbol is of a bird crudely and simply drawn standing facing the left.  He brushes his hand over the cover and its cover is quite coarse and ancient.  Realizing he has just smeared some blood from his cut onto the cover, Dr Codene moves to the supply chest for a rag to clean the cover.  Returning to the book the Dr pauses as he sees that the cover has no blood upon it at all.  Dr Codene picks up the book and again examines it from all sides….no blood.  Placing a bandage on his hand he turns and with his uninjured hand he passes his hand across the cover again…..still the same etchings nothing new….except the cover appears to be less coarse.  As Dr Codene becomes puzzled at this difference the quiet of the Infirmary is broken by the whistle of the water boiling for his tea.

    The teapot steam billows out into the cool evening air and condenses on the window above.  Dr Codene pours his water and makes his tea; as he lifts the cup to sip his Earl Grey his eye catch a glimpse of a face within the condensation on the window and he hears a whisper behind him…”Beware”.  Dr Codene burns his tongue on the hot tea, turns to look for the source of the whisper and drops the cup of tea to the floor.  His attention and gaze search the corners of the room, the window the shadows and then focus down to the book that lays now open on the table in front of him.  On the corner of the desk sits a pair of blood vials and the contents of the vials begins to creep up and out around the caps that contain the blood within them.  Dr Codene watches as the blood trickles toward the open book.  Quickly gathering his wits he knocks the vials to the floor, slams the book closed, places the book back into the satchel and then wraps it tightly.  He places the book within a small chest and locks it securely.  He is amazed to see the wood of the chest begin to age and darken black….he places the small chest into a crate…..it again begins to blacken.  Dr Codene places that crate into a larger chest and again it blackens but not as fast or dark..  Finally placing the blackened chest into a large crate the turning seems to be halted.

    Dr Codene gathers the other books and places them within another chest and as he reaches for his journal notes he hears movement downstairs on the Infirmary floor.  Reaching into the Alchemist supplies Dr Codene picks up an explosion potion and reaches for one of the Tribal spears he collected while researching the Savage Tribes.  Sipping an agility potion, the good Dr then glides down onto the Infirmary floor like a man half his age.  Dr Codene moves slowly and methodically from the one end of the Infirmary to the other, peering into the shadows.  Nightsight he thinks to himself….always have Nightsight….old fool he thinks to himself as he realizes upstairs he did not drink one before coming downstairs.  As the Dr reaches the end of the room a short gust pushes open the door of the Infirmary; as it creeks open the Dr can see a shadow on the doorstep.  No longer does the night air feel chilly, for Dr Codene’s heart now races strong and as he moves closer to the doorway he snaps the trigger on the explosion potion.

    Leaping out onto the porch he addresses the source of the shadow with a yell……….AAaaahhhhHHA!!!

    Nothing is there except the shadow from a tree on the wall of Olympus next door.  Relaxing a bit with a sign, Dr Codene then yelps and throws the ticking explosion potion toward the open ground nearby.  The nights eerie quiet is broken with the explosion and the Olympus Sentry Tod comes over to offer aid.

    “Dr…..is everything alright?” Tod asks.

    “Aye…..just a slip of an explosion potion….my apologies for the disturbance”; answered Dr Codene with a bit of embarrassment.  

    As Tod turns to return to his post, Dr Codene asks; “Have ye seen anyone about this evening Sentry?”

    “Nay…..was a quiet evening till your slip”; answered Tod the Sentry.

    Nodding and waving goodnight, Dr Codene began to turn to go back inside when his eyes glimpsed a small imprint in some mud by the porch.  Kneeling down the Dr traced the outline with his finger.  The imprint was a large pawprint in the mud, one larger than he had ever seen before.  Dr Codene returned to the laboratory and searched for some cast supplies to make a mold of the print.  Upon returning to the imprint…..it was gone..  Dr Codene looked around into the night air and cursed himself again…..nightsight you old fool…..nightsight.  Returning into the Infirmary he checked the books secured within their chests and they were all account for.  It was late and for an old man the evening had been quite a stir.  Locking up the Infirmary, Dr Codene walked around the corner of Olympus and there was Tod standing his post calmly.

    “I think I will spend the night inside Olympus this evening”; Dr Codene remarked as he reached for the door.

    “Very well sir…”; Tod smiled and helped open the great doors of Olympus Castle.
