Rumor/Truth?

We are aware of a method in-game that allows a character to broadcast speech over a certain distance, making it appear in the bottom-left of one’s screen similar to a system message. Some players have been calling this “the broadcast bug.” While we understand some players may be doing this without malicious intent, this is not an intended use of game mechanics, and is considered an exploit. Do NOT use this exploit, even “just to see what happens.” Even simply testing the broadcast bug is considered a major violation of the rules of Ultima Online, and those players found using this exploit can be banned.

To be clear: Any use of the broadcast bug is a very serious offense, and any player found using it may be banned.

Although the results of our anti-exploit efforts are not always publicized, you can be sure that we are consistent in our enforcement of the Terms of Service and the Rules of Conduct. When we address exploits in the game, we also do everything we can to get reliable information on who was using those exploits — and those people are then removed from the game permanently. We do have the ability to track the use of exploits, and because our goal is to ensure a quality game for all our players, we take full advantage of that ability. Also keep in mind that our records do not take into account player intent, which means that a player who tries out an exploit “just to see if it works” may well find themselves suspended.

Ultimately, the best advice is to not use exploits at all if you value your Ultima Online game account. Don't assume that we will take no action simply because you've heard of someone else using an exploit and getting away with it. If you are unsure as to whether something is considered illegal in Ultima Online, we encourage you to send us a question through our RightNow Web support database at http://support.uo.com, or page a GM in-game if it is an urgent matter.

Also remember that it is possible to be suspended for remaining in a guild that actively engages in violations of the Terms of Service Agreement or the Rules of Conduct, which includes sharing information about or abusing bugs and exploits in the game. By remaining in a group that engages in these types of activities, you subject yourself to the possibility of a group punishment.
