Ooooo... changed mine to Balandar of The Honor Empire.

Don't have that one. I have Attila but got bored on it and angry when my game would crash every time I tried to complete a turn. Had to wait 8 months for the fix, lost interest. I'll wait the extra couple of weeks here for Warhammer. In the meantime, got more SoTA to learn about so I don't have to learn the mechanics when it 'launches' in July.

  2. To our illustrious Trailblazers,

You’ve made your mark in game. Now it’s time to make a permanent mark symbolizing your contributions by adding your name to the Landmark credits!

To be eligible to get your name in the credits, you must have purchased a Trailblazer Founder’s Pack (redeeming one of the sharable buddy keys from the pack does not count).

In order for your name to be displayed in our list, you must opt-in. Names are not automatically included. To add your name to the Landmark credits, please click here.

You’ll need to log in to the account on which you bought your Trailblazer pack.

  3. Over $60k was raised during the SoTA Spring Telethon! For those that donated at least $5 during the telethon, the following items will be your reward:

    • Achieved!  $10,000 – /Flowers Emote (rains flower petals)
    • Achieved!  $25,000 – Flower Crown (increases length of /flowers emote)
    • Achieved!  $50,000 – Giant Butterfly Pet
    • Achieved!  $60,000 – Giant Dragonfly Pet

After the telethon there was a duel with the Devs. What started as a simple duel turned into a massive battle against, primarily, Lord British and Darkstarr.

Balandar stayed in the Stands mostly, until Lord British started killing the innocent :innocent: bystanders. Bal was dead in one hit by LB's sword. :smash:

Rather than letting LB take any of Balandar's appendages as a reward, he paid the price of the oracle and claimed his own hand.

However, in the good spirit of the event, Balandar relinquished his hand and traded it for one of Lord Birtish's necklaces. See the video below for Lord British's reaction.

  4. This is a massive update, so take a look at the instructions on SoTA

    Here are some highlights:

"The biggest and most obvious change is to targeting which now uses a reticle in the center of the screen and makes interaction modal. Hitting the TAB key or invoking any interface window will cause the game to play almost exactly as before but this is still a VERY big change. For a while now, we have tried to avoid making our game modal. To date, we have solved that by requiring mouselook by holding down the right mouse button. This means that you can always have a cursor but it makes targeting hard, especially for ranged combat, and means you have to constantly hold down a mouse button (which players complain hurts them after playing for long times). Additionally, most modern 3D games use free mouselook and use a modal interface to bring up a cursor for interactions, inventory, etc. So with R29, we decided to make the plunge and moved our game to be Reticle Targeting based and Modal. Please note that you do NOT have to keep the reticle on directly top of the target to hit it. Once you have a target identified you just need to have them in your forward arc and in range to hit them. You do NOT need to have the reticle always on top of the target. We are NOT a shooter. We know that many of you have concerns about this change, and rest assured we are listening. We fully intend to support the play style our loyal backers have become accustomed to while expanding the abilities of the game. We are aware of and looking at solutions for those of you with physical challenges we have not yet solved and those of you who want more mouse-centric options. Please be patient while we work through this which may take more than one release."

"The next big change was related to land and housing. Since the addition of Player-Owned Towns (POTs), the amount of “potential” available land has greatly increased and therefore a potential demand for more lot deeds has been created. However that land is only potential, not guaranteed, until the owner puts down lot markers and unlocks the lots. So we still have to be very careful in how we add deeds to the game to make sure those who purchase deeds have a place to use them. So we are adding POT-Only Lot Deeds."

    Additional changes

    - Full Wipe - Please note that if you have been waiting to convert your purchases to store credits, this is your chance to do so as long as you do not claim your rewards in the bank.

Love Story-line First-Playable: With the addition of the Crypt of the Avatar beneath Midras, the Path of Love is playable from start to finish.

Brittany (Central): The capital of Novia! Center of Commerce! Home of Arabella! This will be surrounded by 4 other housing neighborhoods as well as the Brittany Graveyard. Please note that story elements have not yet been added for central Brittany, and all NPCs remain generic for now.

Crypt of the Avatar (beneath Midras Ruins): The ancient Crypt of the Avatar, as found by Aren and Syenna in “Blade of the Avatar,” is open for exploration by those who have fought their way through the halls of Necropolis.

Underground Network - To date, we have added underground areas (dungeons, sewers, mines, etc) as mostly stand-alone scenes, seemingly filled with random resources and randomly connecting to other underground scenes. As of this release, the randomness begins to go away as we start embracing a “grand underground plan.”

Lot Selection Sequence: The lot selection sequence process will be implemented and tested by players. Pacing for these initial tests will be very accelerated with lot selection windows being mere minutes versus a full 24 hours.

    - Honor Hold (Our town governed by @Borg): Converted to Mountains [and moved south to our new location at the crossroads].

    small.SotA_04-22-16_17-51_2.png.fe2ffd56912302afa42de0a56d809257.png

    - Performance: Major efforts will be done to optimize performance. This will include frame rate improvements, load time improvements, and memory footprint improvements. We will also begin officially supporting Windows 10.

List Mode for Recipes: Crafting Stations in List Mode now include a section of the interface that lists all the recipes for that station. That means you no longer need to have the Recipe Book open when using a Crafting Station. We also added searching to each list view and a category dropdown to the recipes list for further filtering.

New Reticle Targeting/Free Mouselook Mode: For a while now, we have tried to avoid making our game modal. To date, we have solved that by requiring mouselook by holding down the right mouse button. This means that you can always have a cursor but it makes targeting hard, especially for ranged combat, and means you have to constantly hold down a mouse button (which players complain hurts them after playing for long times). Additionally most modern 3D games use free mouselook and use a modal interface to bring up a cursor for interactions, inventory, etc. So with R29, we decided to make the plunge and moved our game to be Reticle Targeting based. Please note that you do NOT have to keep the reticle on directly top of the target to hit it. Once you have a target identified you just need to have them in your forward arc and in range to hit them. You do NOT need to have the reticle always on top of the target. We are NOT a shooter. We are continuing to iterate on this new method and we are fully aware it is not quite there yet. We are aware of and looking at solutions for those of you with physical challenges we have not yet solved and those of you who want more mouse-centric options. Please be patient while we work through this which may take more than one release.

Claim Rewards at Bank: Now, rewards are not marked as claimed until you claim them inside the game at the bank. Previously they would be marked claimed as soon as you logged in. NOTE: Rewards are still not available in Offline mode.

Control Points Perks: We now have the ability to link the unlocking of items like doors and containers to the state of a Control Point. So as players successfully take and defend a Control Point, we can grant access to previously inaccessible content. For R29, we are testing this new feature in Vertas Pass—for each wave of enemies that players face, a new door somewhere in the the village will unlock and give access to a treasure chest, but when the control point is lost, all doors re-lock.

  6. In the latest update from Portalairum we can see the City layout of Brittany!

"Hey guys, SorcerousSteve here to give you an update on the City of Brittany!

  7. Community member Truthveyor created a fun game to help players learn Runic. From his forum post

INTRODUCTION: I’ve played Ultima III, IV, V, VIII, IX, UO, and now I’m playing SotA, and I’ve always wanted to learn to read Runic better, so I decided to program a small game to help me with that. I’ve done it now, and it has drastically improved my Runic reading speed, so I decided to improved it and to release it as a community resource for the SotA fans.

GAME DESCRIPTION: It is a small game (about 30 MB size) that teaches you Runic alphabets by having you type the Runic alphabets that appear on the screen. The game will automatically adjust itself to your Runic recognition speed and help you improve Runic reading at your own pace. By playing this game, pretty soon you will be able to read and write in Runic!

    lesson-pic-1_zps2akdg9kr.jpg

FREE DOWNLOAD: You can download it for free at the Shroud of the Avatar School fan site I just created: http://sotaschool.weebly.com/ (NOTE: You do not need to have or get a Dropbox account to download from Dropbox.)

SYSTEM REQUIREMENT: Windows XP SP2 or later, Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10. Latest DirectX 9.0c installed

SPECIAL THANKS: This game is made possible by the community resources on Runic, especially http://sotamuseum.com/ by Duke Greagor, and “Learn NB Runic and how it is properly written” by Kacey.

LEAVE YOUR REPLY: The “score” you get from playing this game is the speed you achieve. When I first started, my speed was about 1.1 second per Runic alphabet, but now my speed is 0.47 second. Play this game and post your speed in this thread!! (Can anyone beat my speed??) All joking aside, I’d truly love to know if this game helps you learn to read Runic.

Also, if you experience any problem with this game, or have suggestions, etc., just leave your reply and I’ll try to fix the game.

The latest version of the Runic Game, “Runic Game 1.1” allows you to

    1. Select between learning “New Britannia Runic” or “Ultima Runic”

    2. Continue playing after the 10th lesson if you wish

    3. After every 4 lessons, there is a SPECIAL LESSON in which you are trained in your five slowest Runic alphabets. For example, for me, my five slowest alphabets are z, x, q, p, and g, so the Special Lesson trains me only on these five alphabets in that lesson. Your speed in Special Lessons is not counted toward your average speed calculation for the game, so it does not affect your overall speed score.

One thing I both love and hate is the darkness of dungeons.  THAT's reality.  The idea that you crawl through tunnel after tunnel of a crypt or cave and have wall torches or lamps all along the way is nice, but unreal.  You need to go delving prepared or else you are screwed.  Unless you are a dwarf or elf of course.....    For gaming purposes, some small amount of light helps but still....

    Happy delving!

It's very dark in the pit at The Rise. There is a thick fog over the entire area. So far, it's my favorite dungeon in SoTA. There are a lot of little surprises and different themed rooms. But it's HIGH LEVEL. We would have been toast if not for the other players. What's nice is that it is not a party instance. So you can wander around the dungeon with others, like the old UO days.

  9. Balandar watched the grisly scene. The demon tore into the kobold's body, gutting it, pulling out the entrails and shoving the bloody bits into it's impossibly large mouth. He watched as the demon gorged itself, quivering in ecstasy, blood pouring out of its jaw. Balandar smiled, enjoying every second of the show.

Borg approached the Demon from behind, moving swiftly despite wearing full epic plate. With his magnificent sword in hand, he took the head from the demon in a single swipe. The demons thick acidic blood squirted from its neck, the body slowly toppling over while the head bounced and rolled to Balandar's feet.

Balandar looked at the Demon's head, a small piece of kobold still in its maw, and frowned, "I was enjoying that immensely, Borg".

"It's a demon, a creature of pure evil, it should be sent back to whatever hole it crawled out of..", said Borg, slightly confused and a bit angry, while cleaning the blood off his sword before it destroyed the metal.

"I did not say it should be kept alive…. but it appeared to be quite happy eating the kobold", Balandar grinned wickedly.

"Something is amiss with you friend", Borg said disgustedly.

Balandar laughed, "Why kill your foe when it's eating other enemies?"

"What?", Borg asked, but believed he knew where the mage was going with this conversation.

"It's simple really, the enemy of my enemy is my friend… you could have waited a little longer before decapitating it," Balandar explained.

"It's a demon," Borg bluntly stated.

"Yes, and a hungry one. I wouldn't mind having one as a pet..," Balandar mused, more to himself than to Borg.

Borg shook his head and chuckled, "You are crazy."

Balandar just grinned, thinking of the possibilities of having a demon to do his bidding, and wondering if they could be controlled...

Edit: This story occurs later in Balandar's life in Novia. Date is unknown.
