LukkanMortain
I was just curious to see who plays 3D really. I started playing AOS in 3D but the recall lag was killing me, literally. Ive since moved to 2D, and while there are thing in 3D I really liked(bigger windows for the backpacks and chest, so you can spread things out a little), I just cant see hunting in 3D anymore. Dragon armor looks viscious in 3D, looks like regular ole armor in 2D. Just wanting to see, for my own curiousity...curiosity..*looks for a dictionary*
Winter Wind
I am 3D fool. Why lie about it? But doing some experimentation I have found that I lag a lot less in 2D. Especailly when 2 or more vortexes are on screen.
Lord Logan
one thing that helps 3d is to move the "zoom" option in a bit...but as for lag im on 56k and umm i always do!
Linda
I have never played in 2D. I saw pictures of 2D and it looks hokey to me oh yea Thanks Winter for my pretty sig image!
Triston
I tried 3D for about, hmmm.... 5 Minutes? Im 2D
Grelix
Yup, another 2D here! I used 3D for a short while with the third dawn beta cd but I too got annoyed with the amount of lag on my 56k connection and am now back on the good ol' 2D stuff... Pity bout the backpack size as you say but its a small price to pay for the lag I guess
LukkanMortain
Yeah very true, Grelix. Just a note, the lag happens in cable AND T1. My fahter has T1 at his job andthe lag in rcalls and gates happens there also.
Raistlin_wind
hehe I love my 3d yeah i get lag just like everyone else but i can't stand 2d it just reminds me of playing nintendo64 so i play on 3d also... *looks around at all the sigs and beats winter for not having mine ready yet* Edited April 28, 2003 by Raistlin_wind
Winter Wind
Actually I see 2 distinct advantages of 3D over 2D. 1 - With the 3D client the dungeons are never truely dark. Using 3D I never have need of an In Lor or Nightsight. On the 2D client the dungeons can get dark as coal. 2 - I like the CTRL + SHIFT option of the 3D client. With just 2 buttons pressed I get the bar of every item, player, and creature on the screen. It makes it easy to pull health bars, it makes it easier to loot. This one is nice, but not too much of a plus. In the 3D client, as soon as the death blow lands I can open the corpse and begin looting before it hits the ground. Steel DarKnight
2D, I'll take playability and functionality over eye candy anyday.
Prometheus
2D all the way. My main reason is performance. My other reason ... well ... I think this explains it better than anything.
Winter Wind
Hehe. I had seen that one Prom. I thought it was hillarious. Pre-AoS the 3D Paperdolls were pretty good, better than the 2d in my opinion. Now though, they look like Cabbage Patch Kids. Poorly drawn ones at that. Lord Logan
There are advantages to both...just i pick playability. For events and such i do use 3d. When out hunting or traveling i use 2d. You have to love the zoom puts you right in the action. Also the mass buying on the vendors is great. To bad when you get off your mount it looks like your knee deep in molasses. Linda
For events and such i do use 3d. When out hunting or traveling i use 2d. ..er...how do you switch betsween 2D and 3D without uninstalling and reinstalling..? *scratches head*
Prometheus
When you install them, they usually install to directories called "Ultima Online 2d" and "Ultima Online 3d" ... so if you have the space to spare, you can have them both installed. LukkanMortain
exactly Prom. I have them both dl as I do the same now as Logan. If not for me wanting the eye candy ever so often(love the look of dragon scale in 3D) Id prolly stay in 2D all the time. Just so much faster. Prometheus
Aye, the dragon scale seems to be the only improvement that I saw in the AOS 3d client. It used to look like alot worse. Edited April 29, 2003 by Prometheus
