Tales of the Travelling Man.

Strider

Recommended Posts

In a time long ago, before the Age of Man, when the world was populated by Elves and those creatures of the Fae, the world was at peace.  It is said the the Creator walked amongst the ELves and others, spreading magic and glory throughout.

Among the elves was Nadrial, a princess.  Fair and beautiful, and destined for great things.  Her travels throughout the world, brought her into a realm untouched by even the Elves.

The Fairy Wood as it was called, was a mysterious place, and soon its mystery would engulf Nadrial.

---

W'y'tzyl'vyt,  a strange creature, neither elf, nor man, but fae.  A creature of magic, who lived between realms.  Many of this day would compare him to a Wisp, but he was more.  Oft times no more than pure energy and other times very real, very physical.  This time, he was that, he was real and whole, and as he did pass from tree limb to cloud, to tree limb, he encountered great beauty.

Looking down, he saw an elven woman, and her beuaty caught him off-guard.  Never before had he looked upon the face of an elf, and he saw in her that which he lacked.  A permenant link between Physical and Elemental.  Her very being shone with great light, light of the Sprites themselves, yet she had a physical body all her own.

---

And so it came that Nadrial looked up, and saw shining brightly, this glorious creature who she fell in love with... and so with their meeting Nadrial and W'y'tzyl'vyt, or Wytz as she would come to call him.  Joined in holy union.  And from their joining, would come a true link between their worlds... their son... Elwe Earendil.

---

The sun shone brightly as young Elwe, only one hundred and ten years of age, listened to his tutors, as they taught him in the arts of Magic.

The humans had come into being not long after his birth..  Still primitive, but a select few developing a thing they called Magic.

To the Elves and his fathers people, this "magic" was second nature.. if not first..  But the humans had new ways of Harnessing it, for it did not flow through them as it did others.

Elwe listened, but he knew he need not.  He knew already what they would say, how the techniques would work.  His master had already finished Elwe's training...  but no one other than his father's father knew of this Master.

--

Master was a kind soul.. with a human look to him, but far to glowing to be human. Elwe cared deply for master, and listened to everything he said, and watched everything he did.  Travel was as simple as walking from one room to the other for Master, who could reach the ends of the earth and back again in a single breath.  It was the ways of his Master Elwe would learn... to travel time... and space..

It was in this... in this learning that he would come to be a traveller... he would come to be what his master called..

A Strider.

One Thousand years since his birth.  A very long time, Strider thought...  or would have in the past.

Elwe, now simply Strider, was indeed a Strider.  A Member of the Order of the Glowing Rift.. they who walk between time and space.  Reaching out into endless realms.. seeking.. learning.. growing.

Strider loved his work.. and his new brethren.  The Master had become very ocuppied in the past hundred or so years.  Humanity had grown again.... spreading out.  Some realms had little human devlopment.. and others much.

This was good, and bad.  For the Humans posed a new experience... a new and unique way of thought and life un-seen in the past..

Yes... the One Thousandth year of his life.. Strider learned much.  Visiting many realms, though always remembering them all.. lending a helping hand where he could...

Time seemed to fly.. and indeed it did fly.. Between his very fingers and through his mind..

--

Two Thousand years of age he was now..

Humanity had now taken most of the known realms and realities.. And Strider, one of the last of his kind in these times.. was worried.  About his One thousand five hundreth birthday, the humans and others awakened something that should have stayed asleep...  the other half of the Master.

The Guardian had come... and his minions were taking realms and realities of their own.  Entire worlds engulfed by Undead or Orcs.  However, it was that keyword... OR... that kept things safe.  The Orcs and Undead hated each other as much as others hated them.. and though both creations of the Guardian, as long as they fought, Elven and Human kind would survive.

---

AS time passed.. people passed.. The Master withdraw from physical existence, and Elwe was now the last Strider.  He had served the Master for 2,700 years.  His life extended by both his heritage and his training.  He had become mainly a warrior, knowning but not always using Human magic.

And was in his 2,700'th year that one single realm caught his eye.. this realm was Sosaria.

-

A mage named Mondain had brought forth vile power.. channeling forbidden ways... and he planned to gain all-mighty power...

At first Strider laughed.. but he saw that thing.. that gem..

And so he began his journey.. crossing time and space.. headed on.. not to Sosaria but elsewhere... to The Abyss.

There he arrived and sought The Master, and he did find both he and The Guardian.

The Guardian gloated that he would take this human dominated realm, and finally best his brother.  But the Master simply waited, watched.  In seeing this Strider was concerned but would go on as his Master was doing.

Then, he came... the Stranger.. he defeated Mondain, and cracked that gem.. and from it... from it arose great mystery.

Now his senses developed by training sang in his head.  New realms!  New realities!  He dove! Deeper, deeper, into the fabric of time and space, and strode forth into a new reality..

His new home..

In this new Sosaria... this new.. Britannia.

In the shadows he watched... for nearly 300 years.. only watching, and waiting..

And then he came forth.. and began his new life... in a quaint city.. yet hauntingly similar to his first city, the city of his mother.

This new City... Trinsic.  And so it became his home, and he in the guise of a human, struck out in search of knowledge..
