((Writing stories is so much more entertaining than listening to teachers :yahoo:))

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Race you to Razorhill!" shouted a young troll female, bouncing eagerly from foot to foot.

"Amahli laughed. "Rey, ya know ya ain't gonna beat me. Ah'm the fastest there is!" She preened a bit, ignoring the folks around her in Orgrimmar. "And it's a long run, ah don't think you kin make it allaway."

Reyna, who had befriended the affable Amahli when the troll was a little girl, smiled and began casting. A flash, and Amahli saw before her a ghost wolf, wagging its tail and grinning up at her. "By the moon!" Amahli exclaimed. "Y'finally learned it. Righto, then, this should be more interesting." She lept in the air towards the wolf-Reyna and shifted midair to her travelling form.

The wolf snorted, "Show off," and without another word took off for the main gates.

"Cheat!" the tauren-turned-spotted cat shouted as she scrambled off after her friend, leaping over a very surprised orrc hunter, nearly taking his hat off. Amahli snickered and turned her head a bit to see him shaking his fist at her. As she looked forward again, she had to dig her claws into the earth and dart off to the side to avoid a boney warhorse rearing in fight in front of her. Dodging again a large white wolf, she grinned at its passenger. "Hey, Sal, lookin' sharp!" and sped onwards without waiting for a response. She had a race to win!

Rounding a corner, she saw Reyna just exiting the main gates, and pushed harder to catch up. "Ya can't get rid of me that easily," Amahli said with another grin, paws slapping the earth as she ran hard.

Panting lightly, but still smiling, Rey began to veer off to the left before they entered the ravine ahead of them. "See how you like my short cut!"

Amahli, sticking to the path, called out, "Oh-ho! Ah'll have the innkeeper have a drink er two ready fer ya by the time ya get there." She chuckled to herself, and dug in her claws, mind wandering in anticipated victory.

WHAM!!

Something hit her hard from the side, causing her to yelp and sending her sprawling. Blinking dust from her eyes and coughing, something again smashed into her side before she could even stand. She had just enough awareness now to roll under the third assault, springing to her feet as the spiked head of a mace whooshed over her body. Leaping backwards to avoid another swing, an unfamiliar language cursed at her. "Aziris lea'han!"

Human eyes glared from underneath a slitted helm, and the black-clad figure before her brandished its weapon (a massive mace) in both hands. Feet sturdy, Amahli layed her ears back. This was no untried warrior; she recognized the tabard he wore. It stood its ground, shouting something else angrily and a small tremor shook Amahli's frail, spotted form. What sort of spell is this?! she shrieked mentally, unableto do anything but cower in fear. What does it want?!

However, as it charged her again the goal was clear; It wanted her dead.

The spell of fear broke just as the human raised its mace for another blow. The weapon grazed Amahli's flank when she barely dodged to the left, shifting back into her Tauren form to call up roots from the ground to entangle the warrior. She staggered out of reach, falling to a knee as she put a hand to her chest and called upon the healing powers of the Earth Mother.

Rising her her hooves, she walked backwards away from the human, who had retrieved a knife from its belt and began to cut away at the roots. What am I supposed to do? she thought frantically to herself. If I go feral, I could lose myself again..

Knowing she didn't have time to think - the warrior already had one foot free - Amahli began to cast, sending forth the Starfire just as the human was fully freed of the roots. It faltered slightly, and Amahli hit it with a flash of Moonfire. Unable to stop her attacker, it bore down on her, swinging again the giant mace. She barely pulled her staff up in time to parry, and ripples of pain shot through her arms at the impact. She screamed and tried to dodge right, beginning again to cast.

BAM!!

The warrior's huge shield, now brought forward, slammed into her and stunned her. It dropped the shield and, quicker than should be possible, brought its mace in a sweep to cause her legs to crumple beneath her. She landed hard on her back, breath knocked out of her and head spinning. Raising its mace again, the human brought it crashing down. Amahli hurriedly blinded him with another Moonfire, screaming as she felt the pain of impact on her shoulder.

While the human shook his head and roared, tring to clear his eyes, Amahli shifted quickly into her fighting cat form while still on her back, pushing with her hind legs off and away from the mace. She rolled painfully onto her feet and lept forward, ready to dash away to safety. Unfortunately, her front right leg collapsed, and she yowled with pain, turning her head to see blood gushing out of the wound on her shoulder.

Without warning, a heavy plate-armored foot smashed ino her head, and she tumbled over twice before landing on her side Her head rang furiously, and she could feel the hot blood streaming over her eyes. Pain lanced again through the wound on her shoulder when the human's foot mercilessly pressed down on it. Through the red haze of her vision, she could see it sneering at her, helmet tossed off to the side so she could see. The pain started to become dull, and Amahli knew she was beginning to lose feeling in her body due to blood loss. The giant mace began to fall, and Amahli thought of the sweet release that death would bring.

Suddenly, the weight on her shoulder lifted off, and Amahli thought she saw a flash of grey thrown into the human's chest. Eyes fearful, she coughed blood but managed to gasp out, "R-rey! N-no!"

The human cursed as it was knocked off balance, and used Reyna's momentum to throw the wolf to the side. Rey yelped and rolled in the dust, knocked out of her ghost wolf form and back into the little troll. A red film begain to fill Amahli's eyes, this time not one of blood.

The warrior shouted and smiled with malice at Amahli, turning from her broken form and walking over to the little shaman, who rose to her feet shakily. The human back-handed her with a plated gauntlet, sending her crashing into the ground with a scream. As Reyna struggled weakly, the human reached down and grasped the front of the troll's tunic, hauling her up and off her feet. It laughed viciously at her failing attempts to batter at his arms.

"Mish an Aziris duy'la hatsa.." it sneered and turned to face Amahli's direction - only to see a flash of bared teeth and rage-filled eyes. It tried to scream out, but only a gurgling sound could be heard. It quickly dropped Reyna and tried to dislodge Amahli, whose eyes were rolling and feral.

As the warrior's movements lessened, he finally crashed to the ground, Amahli still clinging to its unprotected throat with a bloodstained muzzle. When she was sure the creature was dead, Amahli opened her powerful feline jaws and lay in a heap next to the body, eyes beginning to fog over. She could just barely make out the crumpled form of Reyna on the other side of the corpse, and when she saw that the troll was still breathing, Amahli shuddered once and blacked out.
